The touch pad issues are tied to all of this that is being worked on. It seems to be a conflict with drivers. As you can disable drivers in different ways and the issue will stop. There are some fixes on here that will help but I found that I can deal with it till they come up with a fix.
I did not post what to disable as I have found that you can disable the drivers more than one way and have the same outcome.

I did find that the keyboard issue comes up for me in changes in the software that I am using. Like my "s" key will stop working on some web sites and go away with a refresh. The keyboard buffer seems to get behind or is to slow when typing. But this does not always stay the same as there are times I can type really fast and have no problems at all, and other times it dose the drop out of key presses even when I am not typing fast.

It is one of those issues that will drive you mad trying to find!
I have to say that this is not the first computer that I have had or worked on that had the same problem, but I have not seen this for a few years now that I think about it.

Good to know you're still with us Gary! Will the fan speeds be adjusted with a new bios? I think they are a little too high on idle with bios 211.

    1. When can we expect this driver update then and can you give more info on which drivers exactly you are working on (Microsoft, AMD and Synaptics makes it a wide selection...)?
    3. What do you intend to change in future Bios updates?
And what can we expect if you decide to finish your work with the vBios (finally working powerplay? decent downclocking? working overdrive? 100% stability?) and do you have any timeframe in mind for that?

So I imagine this will be a "legit" release of the vBIOS, which may be very similar to the one that many of us already installed.

If that's the case, then I am not sure I want to update it again seeing as everything runs perfect now.

Yeah, it is good that Gary is helping us with this. He could have just walked away and that would have been that.
I would be nice to have more control over the hardware in the computer with the Bios. That would make this a complete gaming system like the Mother Boards I buy from ASUS for my Desktop gaming systems. I can go in and tweak just about everything there is to do with gaming boards from ASUS ,that is one of the reasons that I buy them. They work very well and are some of if not the fastest gaming boards around.

We have UEFI on the g73, if you want to use it. As for "space", express gate sits on the first partition of the hard drive.

i dont know if this has been asked yet, but why isnt the g73jw supported by the official nvidia drivers without modding them? my last two asus computers had no problem with drivers from the official nvidia site, but now the g73jw, the most recent model, isnt supported.

did asus do something fishy to their gtx 460m cards?

The G73 has an AMI Aptio UEFI BIOS, but I think you're asking for a UEFI implementation of something like expressgate for an instant-on OS, which it does not have.

But it does improve boot-up considerably. At least for me it does. It's only at the Windows flag screen for about 3 seconds now, and I don't have a SSD.

Getting the dropped keystrokes fixed would be a miracle. It seems it's worse sometimes, because yesterday while I was "discussing" things in the Apple forum, it took me FOREVER to finish because I constantly had to backtrack because of the stupid keystrokes dropping. At the end of it all, I was ready to swear this thing up and down.

Aw heck, I can't stay mad at you *pets G73*

    It's your BIOS.

Extensible Firmware Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most newer ASUS machines have a UEFI BIOS of the AMI Aptio flavor, but it's not a fully-blown implementation that uses all the new capabilities. UEFI breaks the 2.19TB BIOS barrier, so you can boot off of 3TB volumes, in theory. There have been a few demo implementations of UEFI based instant OS environments from MSI, Lenovo, etc. This is what's been being hyped and it's what people in this thread are talking about, but it's simply a capability of UEFI. Intel based Apple stuff has been using EFI for quite some time now.

The Aptio implementation is sort of a hybrid of traditional BIOS and UEFI.

There's nothing to notice, really, unless you wanted to boot from a 3TB drive, there's no EFI shell goodies, EFI instant-OS, or anything that I know of on the user-facing side of it. As I tried to say, there's a lot of hype around it, and you're not going to see any of that matched in the Aptio version that ships with these machines.

Also adding raid0 support for speed up things a bit more, and to get a better WEI score would be nice, we have software support in windows for striped volumes, but not on the system drive, besides the fan control ;)
