Did asus completely pull down forum site on notebook/laptops just so they did not have to read from owners how messed up the g73jh is? I see couple threads there asking where it went, dated from 7/29/2010. You can't get to it from there site at all you can link in with google search but no posting or surfing from the search from asus forum it kicks you.

Would explain why Gary is using NBR for tech support
-
Did someone say Gary? WHERE? Has he fixed my keyboard yet?!
-
So they closed it and I for one fell into the trap, bought the beast and came to notebookreview through googling for lock ups, overheating, keyboard lights and other unforseen events... had I been warned back then, I would not have bought. However, now that I know the beast and I know the fixes... I think I would. -
The first thing I found was that most if not all did not know that the Laptop forum was gone! Then after they tried to enter the site and found that they could not , they started calling to find out why. Then we got some action.
Not one person though said that the site had been taken down by ASUS.
Now this could be that no one wanted to admit that it had been done. But on most I spoke to I do not think this was the case.
After about 45 minutes on the phone I was linked to a person on the west coast who also then tried to get on the forum. When they could not even find it nor find any post about it being taken down they took my number and got my email address and said that they would see if they could get to the bottom of the issue. And get back to me on this. That was last Friday, and as of today Thursday (10/14/2010) I have not heard back about the matter yet.
One thing that bothers me about this is if the company is going to start blocking forums because a issue has come up then how long will it be till most of the forums are down?
Another thing that I found was that when going into ASUS and signing in to where it had the list of computers and Motherboards , Video cards that I have bought , when I clicked on the links I could not get to the drivers for the G73 I could with the others , now this could have and most likely was just the site was busy.
But it also could have been linked to the laptop forum having been taken down, if this is true.
Anyway I will post here when I get an answer back, that is if I do.
Either way this does trouble me a little with the forum taken down if this is what has happened.
Anyone else have any information on this matter? If you do please let us know so we can get to the bottom of this issue! -
Your story i consistent with the "taken down theory".
The headquarters took it down but didn't bother explaining to the regions (US, europe...)
US support finds out (gee... I guess they don't monitor every day...) sees that it's crazy, makes promises, takes action and.... finds out that it is an HQ decision and not a technical problem.... so they are stuck with their promise and don't call back because they are not supposed to admit it was shutdown on purpose.
Voilà!
As far as drivers, they always worked .... let me check... it works. It is very slow (was it ever fast?) but it works as usual.
I have worked in companies where I was one of the guys sitting in the room having to take a decision. It is not pretty, but *all* companies that make something end up doing something like this at some point to preserve their sales. There are, of course, more or less elegant ways to do it...
Anyway, unless Asus comes out to explain officially (which they won't) I'll hold on to my theory. -
This is a pretty concerning issue, actually. I'll try calling soon. We should probably keep this thread bumped until we get a proper answer from ASUS.

I think everyone needs to start slamming Asus and the G73 series on facebook again. It seems shortly after that bad "press" Gary came around and recognized some of the problems, most notably, the GSOD issue and got them motivated to fix the issue.
I am beginning to wonder if Gary is not focusing more on PR issues and thus technical issues in regards to the G73 have fallen to the bottom of the list.
Maybe we all need to make sure Asus knows we are still unhappy about the state of things in regards to the G73 and we want to see results, as in fixes, for the keyboard lag/missing characters/touchpad freakout issues.
I have a sneaking suspicion that those issues are more of a systemic problem with the design Asus uses on quite a few models of laptops, thus if they did find a "fix" it would be a hardware one, which would mean that they would be highly un-motivated to release this information as it would cost them too much to deal with the RMAs. If that is the case, then it would explain the dragging-on of these issues and we ultimately will have to deal with them permanently.
Only with the proper motivation (ie, public unrest and exposure of these issues and Asus' unwillingness to dedicate proper support to dealing with them) will there be any motivation to take care of them.
I do believe the lack of Gary's presence on the forums here to be indicative of the lack of "priority" of these subjects. Sure, I have no doubt he is busy, but to get back to your, so far, "patient" customer base should also be a priority. -
*Cue someone who will be the glorious white knight and defend ASUS, smiting all our arguments to bits*
-
But with many forums asking the same question then they may answer.
As the question being asked all over the web will have the same outcome as leaving the forum up. That is if it was taken down for the given reason in the first place.
I had been going to the forum for awhile from July , and I saw that it was slowly going away. The first thing that happened was that you could not start a new thread, you had to tail on to one that was there. Then it went down hill from there.
I started sending in email reports to there webmaster asking when it would be fixed , and never got an answer back, then I started getting a email telling me to go to a link that they sent me to make a report , well the link sent the report in a loop right back to the person who sent me the link, this went on for awhile before I started calling. I just wanted to find out what had happened to the forum, as others where. That is how I came here to this site as I was doing searches on google on the issues I needed help on with the G73.
Anyway this has seemed to have worked out for the good of Notebook Review!
I have to say one thing, after all the years of working on computers , installing ISP's and servers farms and the sort, this is the first time I have seen a company the size of ASUS do what has been done with the forum. Now I may have missed a few who did, but I do try to keep on top of what is going on in the Computer world. Even now that I am retired I still keep up with the news.
This helps me know when and what and where to buy. -
"Busy" is only a matter of priorities. This is true for everyone. Too busy to come to the forum means that for Asus this forum is a low priority. That's all.
And since this is arguably the biggest notebook forum in the world, that tells you exactly the interest they have in their gamer customers. There is the ROG forum, but it's desertic... however there is "Brian@Asus" who answers... maybe we need to go make noise over there?
G73 Series
I think we all see what is going on, but deep inside we hope it is not true.
G73 is a write off for Asus. They are just milking what's left, doing damage control and focusing on the next one. Totally ignoring their core customers in so doing. Betting the word will not get around enough to affect sales of G74.
Unfortunately, if you already own G73, it will be a small confort to hear in a year or two that because of your actions G74 didn't sell as well as expected...
We can still make noise on Facebook and on ROG but all we can expect is a gesture on Creative or other software. Hardware recalls cost way too much and will simply not happen unless these babies start exploding or burning in your face.
meanwhile, I must admint that aside from the grief it put me through, my G73 is now usable... -
I am going to start posting on the ROG site Republic of Gamers Forum so if you feel the need post there as well. It is indeed sad that the forum on the asus site is non-working for laptops.
-
I went over and created an account on the ROG forum. I'm surprised the thermal issue hasn't come up there.
-
-
It's my original one for here that the mods took objection to.
-
I might have looked in the wrong place though. But you are right there was not a lot about it.
But from what I can see most of the users of the Asus G73 JH have come here.
As in July they started fading out the Laptop forum over at ASUS. And Google puts up this site on or near the top when you do a search for this Laptop. -
-
Well, if we want to, we could transplant the juicy bits over to the other forum.
