    Hey Guys!
I'm a little bit of a noobie, but I've owned my Asus G51-JX for nearly 2 years now.
I'm looking to upgrade it, as I wanna keep it for the next little while as I do not have a desktop
I'm thinking of getting an SSD in addition, and I understand that I may need a caddy, due to the lack of a 2nd hard drive bay.
So I'm swapping my CD drive for a hard drive.
Does this look sufficient? And any SSD recommendations?

I'm also looking into upgrading my 6GB 1066 RAM to 8 GB 1333.

Finally, upgrading my 6 cell to a 9 cell.

Also, what about the wifi card?
I noticed the initial post talks about getting better signal but I have never done it before.
Was wondering if this was difficult and if there are any cards to recommend.

And, I don't know if this has happened to anyone, but my ethernet cable no longer works. I'm going to wait until the summer to wipe my HDD clean and install my SSD along side to see if it works again before I take action.

Yes, I am a uni student. I'd like to have more signal :)

p.s. Sorry if Admins disagree with my double post. The Owners Lounge seems to have moved on from the G51JX and I need an opinion on this.

If i were to take a guess you cannot upgrade to 1333mhz RAM. I have a G60jx, So im assuming the motherboards are pretty similar. The max time that the motherboard can handle is a 1066. I have 8GB at 1066 in mine. Also, be sure your processor accepts 8GB of ram. The intel i5 430m does. And don't be too upset about not being able to go to 1333 if you can't. While the clock speed is faster, the timings on the RAM are also higher. It's sort of a wash.

And same with the SSD. Not quite sure that this motherboard has the capability to take one. I'm not sure though. I'm sure someone who is more experienced in upgrading laptops could give your more depth

I'm pretty sure the processor supports 1333, i've checked.
Apparently, mine is an i7 and supports up to 12.
But i've heard it is a bit of a waste as well, but I'm debating in what aspects will I notice a difference.

I might be doing Anrdoid emulation ( for android development) so I was thinking more memory would be a better idea.

I'm also not sure about an SSD. All I know, is that because the CD drive is SATA, i should be able to replace it with another harddrive, hence the caddy so it fits in nicely. I've asked a few and most people have said it works, but I'd like to talk to someone who's done it with a g51jx.

Mine is a g51jx-x1 and has 4gb currently of 1333. Although mine might be a brick here, soon due to GPU.

One I read (Haven't done a lot of research yet) mentioned getting a Momentus XT 750g 7200rpm since it is both SSD/HDD you don't need to swap out anything but your other drive. Basically same drive in there now. Some say not quite as effective but better I've read, and others say works just as well as a standalone. Those are around $140, little more, like 10-15, than a 128g SSD. Something to look into though.
