    Hey,

    XOTIC PC sells the:
    G73JW-XR1 at $1376 ($1419 without discount).
ASUS G73JW-XR1 Republic of Gamers Laptop
    VS.
    Amazon sells the:
    G73SW-XA1 at $1399.
Amazon.com: ASUS G73SW-XA1 Republic of Gamers 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop (Black): Computer & Accessories

When comparing the G73JW to the G73SW; I know that the G73JW/G73JW have little issues with respect to overheating.

They both come with the same graphics card I believe NVIDIA GTX 460M (1.5 GB) [Not 1.0 GB that the Best Buy G73SW comes with].

However, the processors differ i7-740QM vs i7-2630QM; and I'm not sure if I really want to go to with the newer version since I don't know if there are any issues plaguing the G73SW. I know the G73SW had the sandy bridge design issue, but to my knowledge - that has been fixed.

In short, which labtop, G73JW-XR1 vs. G73SW-XA1, has less issues and runs more stable? Also, which labtop is the better value?

    Thanks,

    -NRUserII

The processor on the SW is a lot faster than the JW.

The only downside on the SW-XA1 from Amazon is the 1 year warranty difference.

I would go with the SW you won't regret it :)

    Hey,

Good to know, any other thoughts on which is the better value; I noticed that the XOTIC PC version (G73JW) allows for customizing the thermal paste (ie. ordering IC Diamond pasted on the CPU/GPU); is this something that is necessary?

    Thanks,

It's not necessary, the SW runs very cool, idle in the 30s, under full load, the temperature of both CPU and GPU goes to just above 70C, so don't worry about the thermal paste. I would buy SW for sure.

    Hey,
It's actually for the G73JW-XR1 version though; is it still not necessary to pay the extra for the ICD 7 thermal paste for the G73JW-XR1? I realize that the SW has very little heating issues, but I am not familiar with what heating issues the JW has, Thanks.

the 460m's I've seen run cool, so no need to paste

    Hey,

Does anyone know what the bus width is of the NVIDIA GTX 460M 1.5 GB (.5 GB of VRAM) card that comes in the G73JW-XR1: is it 128bit or 192bit?

    Thanks,

192 bit from every thing I have read about it. Unles your getting one from Best Buy in the SW model and I would look really close at the GPU in it before I bought it.
