Hey guys, i just recently got a ASUSg73 A1 and a new NetgearWNDR3700 dualband router but i can't seem to get on the 5ghz band. On my old Asus G1S i can see both 2.4ghz band and 5ghz bands but for some reason i dont see it on the g73. What pisses me off even more is on my G1S i have a conection speed of 300mbps and on my new g73 i have a 65mbps speed. Any ideas people? In my device manager it says i have the Atheros AR9285 wireless adapter.

The Atheros card doesn't support the 5ghz band. You'll need to upgrade your wireless card. Most people seem to like the intel 6200 wireless card for this laptop.

is that difficult toinstall on your own? Does it kill the factory warranty?

any reason why is shouldnt buy the 6300 card over the 6200? Its my understanding that the g73 only has 2 antennas but the Intel 6300 card need 3, will it still work with the 2 antennas?

It'll still work, but it will function like a 6200... so why pay more for the same thing :p

Some crazy people here added a third antenna wire but it was a huge PITA, you have to run it up alongside the screen and everything.

I just had new internet installed at a much faster speed than I had prior. When I run a speed test on any other computer, I am getting > 30Mbp/s download speed. When I run the same test on my ASUS G73JH I get ~10Mbp/s. Is the wireless card the reason for this? I am extremely frustrated with this issue.

Wireless card shouldn't be the issue here. Are you sure you're comparing apples to apples? Same time frame/same server/same browser? You may just need to tweak your settings, but even the stock Atheros card shouldn't have an issue with that to my knowledge.

Remember the Atheros card is limited to 150mbit

I've run the same test off the same server at least a half dozen times on each machine, same result. I am curious what settings need to be "tweaked."
