There isn't any need to download this.

All this update did was add support for HD6970. The drivers are actually older. These are based on the 10.11 with optimizations for HD6970. The normal WHQL are 8.80, the RC3 are 8.79.

Can't answer on those, since I don't have them installed. Darksiders is righteous on them. :)

Hello Chastity, I am unsure how to get a message/question to you other than post it here. I hope you come across it here.

I, of course, much like everyone on these particular forums have the G73jh. I, over the summer, started getting the GSOD. I returned the laptop in November and they put in a new video card and installed the 8.6 drivers. I have a program on here called PowerDVD 10 that I use to play Blue-Ray discs as I have the Blu-Ray rom on this machine. Well since the reinstall of the new graphics card and the backward falling of the drivers to 8.6 the software no longer will work. Below is the error I get from the PowerDVD crashing.

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: PowerDVD10.exe
    Application Version: 10.0.2325.0
    Application Timestamp: 4ced3d30
    Fault Module Name: aticfx32.dll
    Fault Module Version: 8.17.10.1041
    Fault Module Timestamp: 4c58c86b

As you can see it is an ATI driver causing the crash. Now we come to the actual reason for this post. I updated my BIOS to 2.11. However I cannot, and let me say that again. I CANNOT upgrade my video drivers past 8.6. Let me explain, once I uninstall the drivers. I reboot to safe mode do a driver sweeper from Guru3D and then use my Auslogics to defrag my registry..I reboot to desktop the laptop AUTO installs the 8.6 drivers immediately. I tried this at least a half dozen more times. Trying every way I could think of to get the drivers to take. CCC will not even work now. It crashes almost as soon as I get my desktop is up and going. I contacted ASUS and they told me point blank that all of their laptops will auto reinstall their drivers once you reboot. I can think of no way around this unless I stop time on the section of the HD that has the drivers then install the new drivers before the old ones can reinstall...just I am not real good at stopping time just yet. They told me from ASUS Support that I did not need to uninstall the old drivers and that just starting the install will overwrite the old ones. I have done that so many times I am sick of seeing the ATI catalyst splash screen that comes up. TO be honest when it does install it never really says it is installing it just says Detecting Device, and installs the Install manager and some ATI problem report manager over and over. I can go into Add/Remove programs and the only two things I have in there is those two programs.

Do you or anyone have any idea on this? I hate to think about that the blue ray drive and the subsequent $125.00 software PowerDVD 10 is useless to me now simply because I cannot update a new beefy video card.

Please any and everyone if you have any ideas..let me know. I must say I cannot go anywhere or even send this in for repairs. I am working in Iraq for th next 3 months. So my movies is all I have.

    Thanks,
    Matthew

    That is correct.

Are you sure you're installing the driver and not just CCC?

Get the full driver package (Catalyst Software Suite) here.

Hi Matthew, and welcome to Asus :)

I don't see anywhere in your diatribe mentioning you updated your video BIOS. (vBIOS) I would suggest that is the first thing you do, since it addresses a crash issue with newer video driver builds. There's a link in my sig for the latest vBIOS and also a Driver & Application Reference page for the G73JH. You can find the vBIOS there as well, plus updated links for other drivers.

In order to do the vBIOS update, you will need a bootable USB flash drive. Utilities are provided to make one. Instructions are available here if you need them, and includes a video.

Hey Chastity, actually I did say in my second paragraph that I upgraded my BIOS..but that is neither here nor there. I downloaded the vBIOS update in the .rar file. followed the directions and watched the youtube video twice with the little fella there giving the run through. I have tried it with two different thumb drives. My pc does not recognize any of them. In the Boot up window where it asks me to use which device. I have my two 500GB Hard drives and my Blu-Ray player. Is there a way I can use a CD ROM for this?

I take it the drive does not show up when you hit Esc during POST to get the boot menu?

Hey chastity. Nope it does not. Now, nither does th DV I just burned the three files to. The Blu Ray drive itself and the two HD's show up but it gives me a message to put in a boot disc in the drive and restart. Is there a setting in BIOS I need to switch? Currently it is set to boot off of the HD first then the Optical Drive second?

Oh, if this matters and you are not against chatting with me live. I have Yahoo up. mereinid@yahoo is my alias heh. =)

Well, all I wanted to say that I finally got my G73jh to cooperate. What finally went thru for me was my, my laptop as you know, was not seeing the USB boot drive I had made. All that was listed were my two 500gb HD's and my BluRay Optical Drive.

I rebooted went into the Bios, with my boot drive inserted. I went to the last tab and loaded Optimized Default Settings, saved and then rebooted. Sure enough, there was my US drive. Loaded that drive, it came up as C: I put in vflash. BLAM! Done in about 5 seconds. rebooted. Went straight to desktop, immediately installed the new mobility drivers I got from here *nods to Chastity.* Working excellent and actually dropped the temp of my card down a few degrees F. idle was running around 122f. Now it idles at 111 f- 115 f. Can't complain.

Thanks all for your assistance. You may want to add to your stickies you put here, that one should load the optimized defaults for the laptop if their laptop is not recognizing the USB boot drive. Just an FYI, of course. Thanks so much all.

Luck and loot to you all. Off to play some heavily modded Oblivion!

    OK, good to know!

I suspect it has to do with these drivers but I still got to lear how to/where to check the error dump files to see what caused it (it's happened like 3 times, but I always was AFK so I couldnt see the BSoD myself)

maybe has to do with Power Management while you were away, like trying to enter some Sleep mode, or shutdown HDDs.
