    Hello All,

    I have the ASUS G73J-x1

Quick question. I tried to install the new ATI driver (10.11) and am getting an from the installation log that states that the driver failed to install. I try to unistall and retry and get the same message. I have done this several times and do not understand what I did wrong. I have even tried using driver sweeper, and am still getting error. Everything else installs (Catalyst Control, etc), but not the actual driver. My device manager does not even recognize my ATI graphic card. It notices the monitor, but not the card. I sense a registry error, but not sure how to correct it.

I am a littl stuck as to what I should do. Can I reisntall Windows? The laptop did not come with a disc. How would I go about reistalling Windows? I don't have a restore point I can get to before trying to install the new driver.

Is there a way to avoid re-installing altogether?

Any help/adivce would be greatly appreciated.

    What i did for a successful install was;

1.Unistall current ATI catalyst using the installer
2.Uninstall graphics card driver - this will cause resoultion to become crap and default driver will be ATI graphics card but thats ok its just for a few mins
3.Download and install ATI 10.11 and do a complete install.
    4.Game Game Game!!!

Mark, I am running the mobility driver.

jOOz, I tried that and when attempting to reinstall the driver I get an error saying that the driver failed to install, even though it installs catalyst control center just fine. Now, CCC doesn't open when I click on it, mind you, but it does install. So the result is crappy resolution, or the 1400 it alows me to use without the driver, and the device manager not seeing the ATI card.

Also, when I try to install the ATI driver via the Catalyst Suite, it fails to download from the site. Saying that 'download canceled.' I tried the 92 MB driver right below it, and get the error about the driver not installing.

Any other help on this? A way to bring PC to stock? OR atleast get my device manager to notice my video card. Again, laptop did not come with windows 7 DVD.

Uninstall old driver, and reboot, or refresh the device list in Device Manager. If the old drivers were uninstalled, your video card will no longer be in the Device Manager, and the installer will not detect it.

If you reboot, and you still cannot install, then try installing with a custom install, and do the drivers only.

By complete install i meant custom install w/ all boxes checked. I assumed a complete/express install also includes the drivers but i just went with custom to be sure.

Rarely the Visual C++ Redistributable causes it to not install. Update that and see if it helps.

ok do this. first un install your ati drivers via programs and features. once done, then restart your laptop. you should now be running in VGA mode. (basically you should have a choppy resolution, and everything should be pixelised). Then download and install driversweeper from this link Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com

then open it up and select the ati box and click analyze. then click clean. it will delete whats left of any ati drivers. then it will prompt you to restart. after that go to the ati website and download the ati installer. the 92.3 MB one. then just run the installer as admin. then follow the onscreen instructions. if that doesnt help let me know.

    good luck.

oh one more thing. if the above doesnt work, then try using the 10.10 drivers instead. also in device manager, under display adapters, make sure anything ati is un installed. you could also try removing the default ones with windows, then restart. once oyu boot up again, windows will install you the default drivers again. then try installing the ati ones after that.

Driver Sweeper is a bit outdated with current Catalysts, which is why I use ATI Crap Cleaner.
