    Hey guys,

So I've been using my G73 on its default settings for a year now with absolutely no problems with any game or program. I recently got Rage and I haven't installed it yet so I don't know if I'll have the framerate problems that some people seem to be suffering from. I want to be prepared just in case though. These are my current driver settings for my HD5870:

    Driver Packaging Version 8.683-091217a-092929C
    Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
    2D Driver Version 8.01.01.984
    2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000
    Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0716
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.9236
    Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2009.1217.1632.29627

Should I upgrade at all and if so, to what? And what about the Rage Performance Driver released yesterday by AMD? Thanks so much in advance.

Yeah I know those are the drivers. I'm asking if they're safe to use. Also, should I upgrade to the newest ATI drivers because if you look at my first post, you can see that my drivers as of now are from 2009 and are in the 8.xx versions.

Your G73jh's AMD GPu will be destroyed if you use AMD drivers that are official and offically support your GPU.

I don't quite get the previous poster's comment because I am indeed running the new Rage Performance Drivers without issue.

The main issue you might have is if you never upgraded your vBIOS... You definitely want to follow the instructions from the stickies to upgrade your VBios to the one Chastity has linked in her driver reference post.

Once the vBIOS is upgraded, then you can run the latest drivers without any problem. Using the stock vBIOS won't work with the new drivers, so you need to upgrade that first, but the vBIOS also solves the GSOD issue and is perfectly stable. It's not a difficult process really to flash the vBIOS, mainly you just need to format a thumb drive and copy the files to it. Once done, just boot the thumb drive and flash it.

I lol'd. Anyway OP if you've had no problems then just stick with it until you run into an issue.

Thanks madnj, I'll follow those instructions. @KuroLionheart: I'm not in need of another driver but mine's too outdated for the Rage Performance driver so I need to update if I want to play the game.
