Ok I have this weird thing going on with dxdiag, it only shows 716MB memory on my 5870 instead of 1024 or the 4k+ mem before. Tried installing 11.1 and 11.1a and still the same, anyone with the same issue?
I google'd it and showed some people with the same problems, no solutions though, thats why I thought, maybe you guys know something?
Here's my SS of Dxdiag:

EDIT: I forgot to add this Microsoft Info: Microsoft
I just want to know if you guys have the same problem too.
-
-
It's a cosmetic problem, don't worry about it. Check your WEI, it should have the correct info.
-
That or use a program like GPU-Z.
-
Yeap same here, ive learned to ignore that
However I am kinda concerned why my DDI verison says 10 and not 11 for DirectX 11... -
i don't need to update directx 11 right?
it goes with win7 -
Same here but more anoying!!!
System Memory 8192 MB (that's OK)
Display Memory : 4070 MB FTW!!!!!
And here below WEI info:
Graphics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Display adapter type ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870
Total available graphics memory 4083 MB
Dedicated graphics memory 1024 MB
Dedicated system memory 0 MB
Shared system memory 3059 MB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Display adapter driver version 8.790.6.2000
Primary monitor resolution 1920x1080
DirectX version DirectX 10
What that??? now I have shared memory?!?!?! -
@nikolai090
What driver version are you using? And have you ever done a clean win7 install on your G73?
@mite_jan
no you shouldnt have to but even under my WEI info it says DirectX 10...ive read this is some sort of reporting error and that it really is DX11 but ive never been 100% sure
Yours looks fine...lol The system auto allocates a certain percentage of your RAM to be used by the GPU when needed...or am I missing something? -
while we are at \Performance Information and Tools
can someone read his score so i can compare it's the same
mine follows as this
7.0
7.4
7.2
7.2
5.9
base score 5.9 -
In my particular case DX Diagnostic Toll read 4gb the ram. Anyway, my unit do not perform as the ones with shared memory of course.
My wei scores are (in same order as apper in WEI)
6.9
7.4
7.2
7.2
7.5
Base score 6.9 (CPU is the bottleneck in my system...lol) -
Nekki
HDD - 7.5 becouse of the SSD you are using right? or else? -
yep, intel ssd x25-m 80gb... now discontinued
-
-
why in the world my 720qm is getting only 6.9 and not 7.0 !!!??!!
-
7.1
7.4
7.2
7.2
7.7 - Using OCZ Vertex 2 80GB -
7.0
7.4
7.2
7.2
7.6
And dxdiag needs serious updating...it's info display has been buggy for years. Apparently very low priority at MS.
Nekki: What are your power management settings for the CPU? Unless more people check in with a 6.9, I think we can find that tenth of a point somewhere
-
7.2
7.4
7.2
7.2
5.9 (Argh need an SSD lol)
Alright cool as long as others have the same bug
aha
-
I got 4000 memory too in ATI HD
7.0
7.4
7.2
7.2
5.9 my HDD hahaha! -
Alright, reverting back to 10.12 seems to have fixed this, lol. Guess I'm going to wait till 11.2 comes out.
And btw I read someone here showing DirectX 10 on his dxdiag. Just search the forums here, I posted a fix for it sometime ago.
-
frosty gets 7.1
@KuroLionheart
did you made some tweaking on the memory or the graphic card ?
you are getting a little higher score -
Your'e not the only one XD:
-
Nah, WEI is just inconsistent and random. Don't take the numbers too seriously unless it's a drastic difference.
-
well if it is random i have tested it again and i was suppose to get different values right?
but no
score were all the same -
It doesn't mean you're going to get different numbers every time. There is a general area the numbers will usually be in but what exactly the numbers will be will not always be same.
-
i am just beeing jelaous for that 0.1 score
-
While I agree the scores are not real important, the numbers are NOT random. You just can't do any kind of benchmarking with an OS like Windows running, so the numbers will vary on any given run.
The numbers are close enough for their intended purpose - so a user can decide if their machine is capable of running certain software. Of course, this never really caught on... -
Yeah that's pretty much what I meant in different working.
-
Look at what mine says:
-
hehe although DXDIAG.EXE results look random ^^
-
Oh yeah I forgot to post after reverting back to 10.12, its now showing correct Vram:
-
my sandforce SSD is only scoring a 7.3
Maybe I should turn off utorrent when running WEI.
Also, I got 7.4 on my gpu scores... 850/1150, but only 7 on my cpu.
Just saying, WEI isn't really indicative of anything. -
heres mine.

Ya I know of that hotfix for the DDI version lol just wondering if there was something else that could be done, figured Id wait for SP1.
However I see you reverted back to 10.12 and now have the correct vram showing, every driver version ive been on has shown the 716mb or w/e it is, do you think that hotfix as well as the driver version corrected this for you? My approx total graphics memory should be 4826 mb according to WEI -
how did you apply the paste? spread or pea? With icd it's better to put a little more than less. It makes a good seal if a little bit oozes out of the sides. If the paste does not reach the sides air can get in between the die and heatsink causing higher temps.
-
Pea method is the best from what I read and what I did. (5.0mm to 5.5mm) Here's the link from ICD. Application
-
That's for CPU's. The HD5870m is 1/2 the area of an i7, so I used 1/2 that of paste.
-
Around 3mm? Your'e right. Sorry about that. Luck it worked well it worked for me.
-
I'm not sure about that. Even before the DDI fix, mine was showing the correct VRAM already so I don't think that will fix it. But its worth a try, wont harm your PC or anything.
-
check this out.
YouTube - How Thermal Compound Spreads -
Is everyone still getting 716MB VRAM from 11.6? Cause I still do.
-
-
i am getting always 716mb vram too
-
I'm getting 2760 here *shrugs*
-
716MB here too. It might change depending on driver version. Maybe ATI tweaked something there for some reason.
-
7.4 for graphics must be due to my huge clocks (860/1320)
Attached Files:
-
-
Well the Windows performance test is compared to other benchmarks not very precise, here are my results though:
CPU 7,0
RAM 7,4
GPU (2D/3D) 7,2 (Stock)
Primary drive 7,5 (G.Skill SSD which is since 2 years in heavy use) -
any additional cooling/heatsinks on the gpu? which version of the driver? temps? stable clocks?
-
7.4 can be hit with 800/1100 as that is what I got.
Could you post some more results and proof of your overclocks please because no one has had overclocks that high that are stable and can be put through any sort of test even with dry ice that is a huge feat to hit with the G73JH. The highest memory overclock was 1300 but his core could not handle 860 by some old fella who pops on the server from time to time
you know who you are.
ATI Mobility Radeon 5870 only 716MB mem?
