I know that some people have gotten this screen on their G73. I would like to get one myself. My question is, did you have any problems with the screen? How does it look? Anything I should know?
Thanks.
-
mine came with version 3 and it looks beauitful...colors never wash out and awsome viewing angles...since this is revision 4 I can only guess its a little better...
-
Yeah i ordered a V.4 for my G73 and should be here in the next week or so i believe...
-
Could you share where you purchased it from?
Thanks. -
Hello
I also ordered this matrix here http://www.yslcd.com.tw/
WU payment only very uncomfortable but they don't accept PayPal -
I'm also looking to order from yslcd, but I want to get some assurance that the screen will not be defective. Considering 5/5 AUO screens have had a problem at this point, three of which I bought from Vancouver Laptops, I'm leery of buying screens.
-
I hope that will not be dead pixels but there is no guarantee from the seller.
Calms me that this matrix are not present in the sale
Stores that sell V4 actually have to sell V0
although it too good to specification and just not much inferior to the color gamut of NTSC 72%v0 vs 90%v4 -
Well today i received my AUO B173HW01 V4
From my point of view: It is definetly better than my previous display Hannstar. Very nice colors, it is very (very very) bright and this display has amazing viewing angles
But i found a red dot pixel on my screen
. I think thats a stuck pixel (i hope). Atm my g73 is running JScreenFix. Some people said it should remove stuck pixels. (Pls disappear red dot pixel *praying*).
-
That's exactly what I can't afford. Imo, resellers should not sell screens like that to people and then give them some BS excuse. Screens should be perfect, end of discussion. =s
-
So, what ended up happening? You keep the screen? It go away?
-
What happened to all your other monitors Kaelang? Risregard my Bfbc2 monitor question, the discussion belongs here.
-
Sent them back and got my money back.
-
Well i contacted the seller about the stuck pixel (or maybe dead pixel) and he offered me a replacement, if the stuck or dead pixel is really visible. Well i send it back last friday and i dont have to worry because the red dot pixel is really visible, especially if the background color is blue like windows log on screen. You can even see the "aura" of the stuck pixel.
-
I got my V.4 today and WOW its very nice
..
Having owned Alienwares with RGBs and even my desktop WFP3008 2560x1600 IPS screen which is my favorite of all time this V.4 is a very good screen..
Super bright and Super colorful ..
Does have some light bleed at the top and bottom though but i am willing to accept it because its still amazing and while i am fairly picky its only for stuck pixels more then bleeding..
I never watch movies on my laptops either and thats really the only time i know the bleed would annoy me but i can understand people who hate it .. -
A question for those of you who have bought from yslcd-
How do you send the payment to them? Through Western Union? Money Transfer in Minutes? How did you do it?
Please be as detailed as possible. (No private info of course.
)
-
They accept payment only through WU. You first need to place your order via e-mail (sales6@yslcd.com.tw), then the manager will send you all the necessary banking information to pay.
I paid for these details:
Western Union Bank Information
First Name: CHAO-TUNG
Last Name: LIN
Address: No.227, Tianjin Street, Pingzhen City, Taoyuan Country, Taiwan 324
Phone: 886-3-4393386
P.S. I have ordered Hannstar HSD173PUW1 1920*1080 (TaoBao.com The Russian division) will look better than what)) -

Western Union is generally for scammers. Be very careful with that.
-
Yeah, That sounds super scary. Money-gram'n money to China, even if it is non-communist Taiwan, is a sure way to loose big, you have no recourse, you don't even have a recourse if it happens here in the USA.
-
I don't know HOW to use Western Union, that was my question. I went to their website, but it never asked for the receiver's bank info, just the first and last name. That means they'll have to pick it up at an agent location. So how do I get it to their bank?
-
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
You don't send it to their bank, you send it to another western union branch. It's a closed system, and the perfect way to get scammed.

About the actual screens, mine came with a V3 (exact monitor according to HWinfo: AUO B173RW01 V3) and while it is bright and colorful, the screen looks somewhat grainy when displaying pure white and the contrast isn't very good
. Also what is very annoying is that the viewing angle is so bad, when I am staring directly at it watching a movie or video with black bars on top and bottom, the top bar is waaay darker than the bottom bar and looks distorted. Is this common among owners of this screen or did I just get a bad one? Thanks.
-
I'm not too familiar with the v.3, sorry.
As far as using Western Union, I'm aware of the risk. But it seems like a trustworthy company, with MANY people here on the forums having bought from them. So far, my experience with Jue has been great. -
I can confirm that AUO B173RW01 v3 is abhorrent matrix
very poor contrast and viewing angles. -
OH! The RW v.3... yeah, that's the 1600x900 I've got now. The reason I'm getting an HW v.4... lol.
Not the WORST screen, but pretty bad. Colors are pretty decent, but whites are terrible, blacks are muddy, and there's no viewing angles to speak of. The screendoor effect is almost impossible to get over, and the "filmy" look drives me crazy. -
Oh ok...so if I get the HW v.4 screen, will it look significantly better? Also I have a 2 year "black tie" extended warranty with best buy. Will it void my warranty if I put the screen in myself? Thanks.
-
It will void the screen warranty. Besides, if you got the accidental, you're probably fine.
-
Hmm...I guess i'll give the geek squad boys a call and see what my best option is. Thanks for the help Kaelang
Edit: yay 10th post i've been promoted!
-
^grats, lol
I used to work for Best Buy, they're very forgiving with the GSBTP. Some stores are different than others, but our store was pretty chill.
I know you won't void your warranty through Asus for sure, at least, not for the whole laptop. But if you have a screen issue later on, the warranty might not cover it. -
Well i received today my replacement and it doesnt have any stuck or dead pixels *phew*.
Also no bleeding at all! Now i am a happy owner of an AUO B173HW01 v4
-
Who'd you buy it from?
-
Kaelang, where country are you from?
I can order it here in italy if a want, or even from Uk, I have a couple of sites at hand if you need them...
Anyway I still don't want to lose the 1600x900 resolution FPS gain campared to the FHD one...
How come I can't find the ing hardware that ing alienware R3 is ing using for their 1600x900 screens... -.-''''
Edit: I also don't get this link:
B173hw01 W4 with HD+ res???
And why the v0 cost more???
B173HW01 v.0 -
I bought that display through ebay from a german company. The compay "Elektro Export" is only limited for europe, so buying from this company wont do for you :-/ (except u live somewhere in europe). It's a pity that this company wont sell his stuff others than europe. It has a great service and a very fast delivery.
I know this company ... i also wanted to buy the AUO B173HW01 V4 display from them, because it's cheap.
But in reality they dont have that display and offered me the crappy LG LP173WF1-TLA1 (i already own that display - thanks to bumblesale
- and it is really the worst FHD display ever - viewieng angles sux and also contrast ratio). They are ok if u want your money back.
Be careful ... most of the british display seller (like e.g. bumblesale) gonna send u a different display because they think that their choice is "simply" better. (read their GTC before u gonna buy something, or else they gonna send u a different item as described)
Edit: B173HW01 V4 is only FHD -
Someone who bought from ylcd, please tell me how you used Western Union. Give the steps you took on their website or at an agent location.
-
thanks for clearing the things up :3
I still wonder what screen is alienware using but I'm starting to believe it will be the same...
-
If u mean the display from m17x r2 series, i think its a Samsung SEC5443 and they wont fit in our asus because it's a 17.0" display
-
Nope, the R3 variant which is using the same 17.3 panel as our G73, I found out that the FHD 60hz one is not the same as the g73, since it has lower Contrast and black level, but I still have not found out which model they are using for the 1600x900 resultion screen (which is the base screen they sell with the R3) nor anyone who is selling those replacement part already... nor any real info about its quality either...
-
This will not void your warranty. As long as you don't break anything in the process you are good.
-
Out of curiosity, how much is this B173HW01 v.4?
I'm looking at another notebook that has it - and want to understand what premium this screen commands. -
do you mean the price?
mmm european price translated into $, it should be something between 110 and 150$, even if I saw other reseller selling it at something like 200$. -
I have the matte version V.5.. Its the best screen i've seen in person.
-
anyone who knows a place where its still possible to buy "the real" V4 AUO 17,3" inch panel?
-
I might be a bit late for you, but here in Germany there's an ebay seller that still sells it:
B173HW01 V.4, 17,3", Full HD, LED, glänzend, nagelneu! | eBay
It says in the text that its the exact model
-
JonnyFrost: I'm italian too and I am interested about B173HW01 V5 (the matte one). I've read that you know where I can buy here in Italy, can you tell me?
Thank you! -
Anyone found the B173HW01 V4 glossy is stock somewhere? preferably in EU? Thanks.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I have seen it at laptopscreen.com (US), they are out of stock now though. But otherwise other listings are for compatible models.
-
I asked them last night..they don't have it anymore:/
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It has been out of production for some time, so it looks like it's getting harder and harder to find.
-
I found a guy in UK that has 4 in stock A- grade, around 65gbp each. 1 dead pixel, let me choose between white and red..got the white one (good choice?)

Depends on the software you use, mobile phones are migrating more to whiter backgrounds but desktops depend on the user.
