I now have my new SSD and think I know how to install it and get it up and running but, I keep reading about drivers need to be downloaded and installed. i don't know squat about drivers. I thought my recovery disk would take care of that. Will some one in simple terms explain to me how and where this is done or if I even need to worry about drivers. Is there a software out there that would do this for me?
    Thanks

Nope, you need to do it manually. Also the liveupdate utility in asus discs sucks hard and creates more harm than good things.

Check this, it has all the needed things, beside GPU drivers. Are you on ATI or Nvidia?

G73/74/53 Series Driver and Application Reference

If youre on nvidia youll mostly need a modded inf for latest driver. Check the guide in my signature.

When doing a fresh windows install, you'll have Windows after the installation, but a lot of your hardware won't actually work. You won't be able to get on the Internet, because your Windows 7 OS won't know how to "talk" to your network card or wireless card. THAT'S what drivers do. They instruct the OS on how to communicate with the device.

I'm not sure how easy this process will be for someone who doesn't have any basic experience with installing Windows/applications or drivers, so you might want to get an experienced friend to assist if possible. There are several posts on the G73JH page posted that you will need.

I can give you a summary of the links you specifically need, but you'll need to download them all and install each one after you install a fresh copy of Windows. Here are the installs you'll need:

    Chipset:
    http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/infinst_auto.exe

    Updated HDD Controller driver:
    http://downloadmirror.intel.com/20110/eng/RST_10.0.0.1046_WHQL_RAID_AHCI_drv_and_GUI.zip

Video (you'll want to do the vBIOS update if you haven't already):
    http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx

Audio (Main) or alternatively you can follow my post on latest drivers and Creative X-fi:
    http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/Vista_Win7_R263_x64.exe

Wifi (pretty sure you said you had the G73JH BST7) if so:
    http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19514/eng/ICS_s64.exe

    Network (physical network card):
    http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/win7-l1c-1.0.0.36-whql.zip

    Audio (HDMI):
    http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/HDMI_R261.exe

ATK (to support keyboard hotkeys and make KB backlight work):
    ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/ATKPackage/ATKPackage_Win7_64_Z100013.zip

    Touchpad:
    http://www.station-drivers.com/tele..._touchpad_153170(www.station-drivers.com).exe

    Card Reader:
    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/Cardreader/CardReader_Alcor_WIN7_32_64_Z171725416.zip

Webcam (or use the standard windows drivers which work fine):
    http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/Chicony(Sonix260)_61.5.200.310.zip

WIMAX (if you have the G73JH BST7):
Grab it from here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G73Jh

    Power4Gear for Power settings:
    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/P4GHybrid/Power4Gear_Hybrid_WIN7_64_z1137.zip

    Splendid for video modes:
    http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/Splendid/Splendid_Win7_32_64_Z1020031.zip

Everything else is pretty much optional, but there are utility programs that are listed on the driver reference page you might want or might not need, it's up to you. The above links you'll pretty much definitely need.

You're welcome. Also, please note that the Graphics driver was pointing to the wrong file. You'll want to grab the updated link.
