Ok so i got an external hard drive to save some files music etc. but before i reformat my hard drive ( since the asus doesnt come with a windows disk) how can I reinstall windows? Alsooooo should I go to the asus site and download the drivers before hand? And should I install all of then? Cause im sure some are worthless.

    Thanks!

Do you have Asus' A.I. disc recovery program on there to create recovery discs? If so, try running that, or see if you can grab it from Asus for your system. Failing that, I guess you can just use Windows' built in backup program, with a DVD to boot from, and a large enough external drive to store stuff on....of course neither is a clean install.

With drivers on my G74, the only two Asus drivers I put on were the ATK one (provides support for the function key functions and an on screen display when they're being used). And USB 3.0 drivers (assuming yours has that). For stuff like Nvidia's drivers, I downloaded them straight from Nvidia.com.

I agree with Josea here, that is what I did is download the Windows disk from that site, use the serial number on the bottom of the laptop for your activation and everything else should be good.

If this is your only computer I would also recommend downloading prior to formatting the network drivers for it also.

If you're doing a clean install I would absolutly NOT insall sound drivers. Just let Windows do it.

If it's like the G74, I'd just...well, have Ethernet drivers ready if Windows doesn't have those-have them on a disk of some sort. I had to install those on my G74 to get the rest.

Then just have the USB 3.0 drivers (Windows doesn't seem to pick them up), and the ATK drives, which make the function/special keys work.

So you should be needing as many as 3 files from Asus...ATK, Ethernet (which you might not need), and USB 3.0 (which you'll probably need).

Grab video drivers from Nvidia.com (or AMD.com if this is a first gen G73). Let Windows do the rest. You absolutely shouldn't need things like audio drivers at all, let alone ones from Asus. Absolutely don't install those Creative Labs ones if available, as you don't have Creative Labs hardware, and it's just a gimmicky program running and causing conflicts. Just let Windows do the audio.

When my brother bought my G73JH on Texas, the first thing that he has done is he created backup discs via AI Recovery to have a factory state of the machine. I believe the recovery partition has something to do with the recovery discs?

In any case, how is this recovery partition specifically going to be used? If I get that win 7 disc and do a clean install, could I delete forever (merge the small partition and the old C partition to become a new bigger C partition) the recovery partition and use that win7 disc instead of going the AI Recovery route?

JehutyZeroshift, Everything you say is exactly correct- You do not need the recovery partition or DVD's if you have the 2 disks. Once I did a clean install I did a system image With Paragon free version to an external hard drive so I will never have to go through a clean install again.
Then only time I could see the AI recovery partition and disks being helpful is if you wanted get back to the factory state to sell the computer.
and Yes both the partition and recovery disks are needed for it to work.
Yes, I have deleted the recovery partition and recovered the space for the windows partition.

I just double checked, and it looks like Asus lists it under "LAN driver" under the model G73 you have.

It's always possible Windows will already have it, but it didn't for my G74, and I THINK I had to have it separately for my N80 too.
