So I just got my new Targus 180w AC Adapter, and I plugged it in to my g73sw and it works! However, every couple of seconds it makes a ticking noise. Is this suppose to happen or should I return the product?

I have worked on many computers over the last 20 years and have never noticed any power bricks that clicked. Maybe someone else that has one will chime in, but it should be silent AFA I know.

I'm returning it. Better safe than sorry!
Is there a good site where I can buy one except ebay?

That particular Targus was faulty, you could try for a replacement? Targus is really good usually. A lot of people are using that model in here.

I got a new targus adapter, but there's something I realized.
When it's idle the adapter makes a clicking sound every seconds. It's barely audible but it's heard if you put your ear next to it. However, whenever I game or run something heavy, I don't hear any clicking sound from it. It's dead silent when gaming. Does this mean anything?

"the adapter will self-destruct in 10 seconds..."

No idea. Probably some switch inside being noisy.

Yeah, mine is completely silent. If it doesn't pose any problems and the noise isn't disturbing you, i'd keep it.

You should probably only notice this when the adapter is not charging the battery and not under load.

If it's a light ticking that is sort of normal, it could be either the transformer or the coil. I've noticed this on cheaper AC adapters, but I have no experience with targus.

However, if you notice your screen fuzzing up or the brightness changing wildly, that's a huge sign that it's a defective AC adapter. The LED indicator on the adapter might blink (or pulse/throb brightness) too if that were the case. It would either be a problem with the AC adapter or very dirty power.

Thank you for replying. My adapter no longers makes sound now, which is weird though. It's dead silent.
