I've been getting more frequent and random BSOD since the beginning of the year to the point where the laptop would crash at least twice a day on normal use. (does not appear to be a heating issue) I decide to update the BIOS and see if things would improve.
I cant seem to figure out how to use FreeDOS and aflash2 after reading a dozen sites and this guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/174395-bios-update-guide-asus-notebooks.html
I've got up to creating a bootdisk with a thumb stick using UNetbootin - Homepage and Downloads
Got the FreeDOS Base CD
FreeDOS | Files
BIOS and Aflash2 from Asus
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Notebooks- ASUS G51Jx
I got pass the part where you press ESC on startup, selecting the right device to boot from
unetbootin takes over and it tells me its booting into FreeDOS
Once in FreeDOS I get 5 options to boot with drivers and or safe-mode, etc
once in FreeDOS, it displays A:\
I type cd c:\bios (thats where I've store aflash2 and the bios file)
and then
c:\bios\aflash2.exe
I can't seem to access the G: drive (thumb drive) either.
Aflash2 boots up but I cant backup the current BIOS (204) or flash it with 208...something about it not being a file and that there is no room for backup.
Im not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong...

If you enter the BIOS, do you have the option to use EZFlash? IF you do, you do not need the bootable USB drive, all you need on the USB drive is the extracted BIOS file. IMO it is safer to run the BIOS file from the USB drive rather than your hard drive (although this 'should' work also).
Hope this helps, Josea -
If your hard drive is in FAT32 then it'll work, if it's NTFS then use a FAT32 flash drive and flash from there using easy flash.

ezflash isnt in the bios for this laptop, I've check several times

You're on a G51Jx? There should definitely be easy flash if you hit F2 to get to the BIOS setup.
I think you are using the wrong drive letter, it's probably either A or B: if you put it on a FreeDOS USB stick. Just put the BIOS image on the root of the USB stick.
If you're getting random BSODs, make sure to test your memory with a utility like memtest86+ - I'm not sure a BIOS update is going to solve it for you.
Aflash2 not backing up or updating!
