I HATE the freaking touchpad and buttons for everything in their being!
About 1/3 of the time the pad will work as it should... then other times, double-tap will only register as single-tap on something, 1, 2,3, 4, 5 taps sometimes do NOTHING, sometimes the multiple taps will all of a sudden zap the cursor to the left, right or down by at least an inch with no other finger even close to the pad.
I have not seen one other problem that others have had on here yet, but this alone is enough to make me box the damn thing back up. I know, attach a mouse and forget it - for $1500 this thing SHOULD work as it is supposed to.
any thoughts? I don't see any updated drivers anywhere for it.

I'd actually try removing the synaptics software. I hate it and have hated it on any laptop I've had with it. Windows default drivers work fine, just none of the "fancy" features like scroll usually work.
-
I've never actually used the touch pad. I've disabled it and just use a Logitech G9 mouse.
-
if I lose scroll, then there we go, the pad doesn't work as its designed.
-
I hated it as well until I went into the panel and tweaked it until it was less annoying. Now I can get by when I don't have my mouse installed.
-
What's a touchpad?
-
I never have an issue with it. Have you guys updated to the newest Synaptics drivers? I really like them, and I disable the touchpad with a mouse present. No issues either way. I realize there are some issues out there with them but I'm not one of them.
-
In the immortal words of George Taylor, "Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!" Okay, it just had to be said once.
It's not that bad. I'll admit it did take time getting use to them.
There are special areas along the top/bottom and sides that are setup in the Synaptics driver. May I suggested you go through those options to get a better feel for the Touchpad.
Alternatively, you can also uninstall the Synaptics driver. -
I have not tried new ones from their site as I couldn't find any with version #'s even close.. I'll try looking again. thanks
-
I'm going to try whatever the latest they have on their site is later.
Anybody here using scrybe from synaptics instead of the standard one?
-
I installed synaptics, disabled horizontal scroll, set sensitivity far up (4th from the top), and I love it
-
Here's a link to the latest driver if you haven't already found it

Yes I found it but thanks though. Seems to have made no difference. I'm almost wanting to say there is a semi-dead spot or something..
I'm very tempted at this point to ask for a replacement unit fro TD. I don't have the problems that some seem to have, GSOD, getting too hot, but damned if I don't have the keyboard lag and weird touchpad.
Has anyone else seen where you can doubletap, triple and more sometimes and it just won't do anything, but move 1/2" or so and it works great?
I don't know which is more irritating, the ignoring tapping or double-tap and a moonwalk to the left, right or up or down? -
I'll try those settings this afternoon, anything to try to get rid of this issue.
-
Like I mentioned, go through the settings, there's a lot to adjust.
-
I wouldnt recommend RMAing to TD if you paid through Paypal. They wont let me replace mine. I have some backlight bleed that at first didnt think would bother me. But after so long, it drove me nuts.
Good things are, they are willing to take it back, and pay for shipping back. But since it's through paypal I can only send it back for money. No replacements, I wouldn't be bothered, but they hiked the price up $50 from when I bought it. So I'm hesitant to go that route now.
The TigerDirect CS was pretty good, just sucks I can't simply get a replacement. I may try the Asus RMA route as they do guarantee the screen to have no dead pixels, which I'd assume/hope it accounts for backlight bleed. -
Well the center of the touchpad is now dead. farking great.
-
are you sure it isn't one of your settings?
-
Watch ur language ape.. anyways , double check ur settings...
-
I just did an f9 restore. I have to mash my finger down to get it to register. If I try to move the cursor horizontally or vertically when my finger gets to that area the cursor stops until I get to a very precise point on the other side.
So a person with TD is going to see if I buy another one ($50 higher) if they can send me a gift card for $50 to compensate, but separate from the paypal transaction. -
I would like to know if they do that. I may try the same if so, I mean the backlight bleed doesnt seem bad at times, while it seems horrid at other times.
Does anyone else notice some bleed on their 1080p screens on top and a tiny bit on the left side?
Its prob very small, some may even have to look for it. But if anyone does I'd like to know.
Thanks -
The degree of irritation is subjective, but I see the bleed almost all the way around the edge, but it doesn't bother me.
-
I have severe bleed on the top and bottom, but it's only noticable at the post screen...
-
No problem with my X3 with bleed or touchpad. Sorry you are going through this.
-
Like when you boot the computer in a very dark room you don't see slightly lighter shades of black near the edges?
-
Like Betaflame said, it's most noticeable during post and boot. Once the desktop appears I don't see it anymore. That's why I said it doesn't bother me.
-
Well, thats pretty much how mine is, its just that when watching a dark scene in a movie, or even just dark in a game I can see it. It's not as bad as I probably think.
Its more so easily noticed from a certain view. Hearing that y'all have it though makes me feel a tad better. I've just gone through so many laptops, I guess I'm just expecting to have a perfect laptop. In most respect, this laptop is perfect other than the bleed, so I think I will prob just settle considering I'm sure I make it worse because I'm constantly looking for it. -
This seems like the appropriate place for complaining about the left and right mouse button bar below the touchpad. Why did Asus make it so impossible to press down? I need to work out my finger muscles to click the stupid thing. Asus didn't include finger excercises in the manual so I guess I'm on my own. I'll practice pushing the spring back on a mouse trap.
Does it soften up over time? -
never had this problem... isntead im disabbling it and use my mamba...
-
OK because they did not decide to use two buttons you are stuck. It is a single button so it has a fulcrum. If you get used to pushing on the ends/outside of the bar you will not have to go to the gym. Yea I know it is an adjustment I like to push closer to center. With two buttons that works. One bar does not.
