I am about to do a fan cleaning on my friend's laptop (Asus K46J) tomorrow and I don't think I'll be able to find a ground (like the metal rod pegged on the ground, for telephone's grounding) where I can connect my antistatic wrist strap on via an electrical wire.
When I cleaned the fans on my Asus G73JH-A2, I made use of an antistatic mat (the dark green one) and an antistatic wrist strap connected on the metal rod of my telephone's grounding.
Now, while I was Googling "antistatic strap", I found this picture:

and I wondered if I can do the same on my Asus G73JH-A2, without having to connect the antistatic wrist strap on a metal rod for grounding. Given the photo of the antistatic wrist strap connected on a desktop chassis above, can I do the same on my Asus G73JH-A2 by connecting the antistatic wrist strap on the area of the neon arrows on the photo below, in order to prevent electrostatic discharge?

Personally I clip the strap onto a metal part of the laptop chassis (the VGA port works well for mine). That way you should have the same electrical potential as the laptop, and prevent any zaps.
