    Greetings!
Im pleased to say that I am now the proud owner of a brand new Asus G73Jh-A2. After months of research I decided to get this rig simply because it offers a great bang for my buck, and as far as I can tell has barely and drawbacks.
Im just wondering if anyone has any ideas on anything i should do with the laptop in terms of updates to get, or hardware to change and such? I was thinking of swapping out one of the HDDs for an SSD, but im not sure yet. Also, ive heard there were a few essential updates, and some bad BIOS updates to avoid? Any info i can get would be useful. If you own this laptop, and have come across some cons, id like to know, just so i may be able to avoid them.
    Thanks a bunch!

I installed 1 SSD and have my OS on there, and some apps, but use the HD that came with it for all downloads, temp files, etc. If you can spring the bucks, you could go Raid with 2 SSD's, but afaik, trim is not supported, which is something to keep in mind as far as long term maintanence on SSD's. However the benchmarks on Raid SSD's are stinking incredible. I did a fresh install on my SSD, disabled core parking, indexing, page file set to 1Mb, etc, and the performance is amazing. Lots of great guides and suggestions on these forums to help us, so browse, look under SSD submenu under Hardware, and decide what you want to do. You will love this machine.

    Thanks a bunch!
Yeah, these forums will certainly help me. mostly because i really have no idea how to succesfully remove my OS from an HDD and move it to an SDD, or how to disable core parking, or alot of the other stuff you mentioned. But thanks for the welcome to the club! im excited to really optimize it! oh, and this may be a stupid question, but i thought the stock chipset does not support raid, or am i wrong? sorry, im really not so great at the really complicated side of things. I just needed a new computer for CAD and gaming, but ill use this as an opportunity to try and gain a little knowlege about how to modify a machine.

Hey was just curious. I have just the stock HDs. But with regards to page file. What should I have this set to?? At the moment its just on stock levels. But what does this actually do? Is it better disabled? Or set to low?

Some insight please would be great.

    Cheers.

Abidderman, if you really are referring to G73, you should know that RAID is not supported by the chipset or bios of the G73.

That was no stupid question. But a Valid point.

Sorry guys, I have spent a lot of time between this forum and an SSD forum, and really can't go with two SSD's at this time, so I didn't research if my G73 supported Raid. I only have 1 in conjunction with my stock HD on my lappy. But the performance of two SSD's in Raid just blew me away per benchmarks... such a difference from just a year or two ago. As for the page file, I adjusted mine on the SSD, probably should leave it alone until you get one. But getting a SSD was incredible in the performance increase for me. If you get one, there are many things on here you can find that could help you max your computer's performance. Sorry for posting bad info without researching.

There are programs such as Acronis that you can clone your drive, but for a SSD I would suggest you do a clean install. I tried cloning, but my SSD was misaligned, so I did a clean install, using my product key for Windows and then found a link to the stock drivers on here. As for any problems I read about, none so far for me. There are many useful tips on these forums (Asus, SSD, Win7 subforums) that helped me. Well, it has been a very long day, time to sleep. Good luck, enjoy and again, sorry given misinformation about the RAID, I am several months away from having to been able to worry about that.

How to clone your HDD to an SSD can be found here Courtesy of Sonic (Sonic-Media.dk). I find this a very simple and easy to do method.

How to do a clean install can be found here (Thanks to Kalim for that :D )

How to adjust core parking can be found here (Thanks again to Kalim for that :p )
