Does anyone know the best place to order? I heard gentech but I want to be sure.

I was considering Alienware but I might be coming to the ASUS camp because Alienware doesn't 15" laptop screen anymore which is what I'm looking for.

Do you guys think this will be a good choice? I think 17" are too big, but 14" is too small because I'm in college, but this computer will also be my main computer so it has to have BEEF. So that's why I am not considering the 17" ASUS.

So does anyone have one/has preordered one? Is it a good recommendation over the Alienware or other gaming note books right now in the Q3 of 2011?

    Please respond.

the 53sx-xr1 eta is 3August at gentech, seems like a good deal $1249 , and it does have the full hd screen, 8gig ram etc.

    though i see its got a 2gb gtx 560m, which is probably 128bit and missing 6 ROP's .

Yeah, I'm torn between this and the m14x.

I keep shifting back and forth, I hear bad stuff about the alienware, but then good stuff, then bad..then I heard good stuff about the ASUS, then bad.

Like you just said, I heard some talk about the gtx560m being 128bit and not 196bit or so, which, I'm not sure how that translates in to PURE Performance instead of theory, but everyone was complaining about it, and that would so crappy if ASUS was really trying to "pull-one" over on it's customers putting in a lower quality gpu....

    still thinking.

Wait until it's released and give GenTechPC a call. Sure Ken, the owner, wants to sell the G53 to you, but I think his word can be trusted and he'll be honest with the questions you may have. I do not believe he would lie to you, he's a trusted reseller of Asus.

Also he will for sure be able to confirm any of the notebook's specifications then, he will inspect the notebook himself.

While you are at it, consider the MSI GT683 that XoticPC sells. Little bit more flashy colors, but I think MSI has cooling that exceeds that of Asus. Their use of normal GPUs is a huge plus, Asus is always screwing over the customer with their proprietary GPU junk. Also MSI is makes everything easily accessible, for upgrades, cleaning, thermals etc. Asus makes it as difficult as possible to discourage you from doing so. The MSI speakers though they are laptop, still crap, are better. MSI also features the keyboards from Steel and I can say the Asus keyboards have room for improvement. Also MSI offers the GTX 570M on one of GT583 models making it the 2nd most powerful 15" notebook available other than a Clevo.

If you don't mind minimal, industrial design, and beefy, but loud fans, go with Clevo. They build the most powerful 15".

Also XoticPC sells both MSI and Clevo (Sager) notebooks. They also have customizable LCDs. You can choose to upgrade to to wide gamut 1080p matte screens 120hz for example. Personally I'd go with either a Clevo or MSi for now until Asus changes from their proprietary GPU junk and making their notebooks more accessible for high end notebook users/enthusiasts. Also Asus Bios and Asus VBios are just endless problems and crap. With the G73 series for example, by the far the most issues with Bios and VBios from ANY notebook vendor. Asus probably had more issues than MSi, Alienware and Clevo all COMBINED and Asus still had more problems. I personally would not recommend Asus to anyone looking for a high performance laptop. Maybe something for casual use, a netbook etc.

Fortunately the retailers don't agree with your assessment. I've asked Ken and others about this, and they tell me the complaints and returns are on par with the other makers.

Gentech, is there any difference in time between the arrival for different retailers?
Like say, should xoticpc or another retailer have gotten their shipment of A1's already as well?

Also: could you give the details of the changes between the SW and the SX?

I can't comment about how soon other retailers get their shipment. we already have G53SX in stock and ready to ship.

There are two major changes between SW and SX:

    - SX comes with matte screen.

    - SX comes with GTX560M.
