Is there a better wifi card I can install to help me get better range and speed with my G73??? My friends Toshiba gets a way better connection than I do at work... I know they are simple to replace... I want something with 3 antennas... but which one is the best... and how much more range and speed will I get? will it make a bigger difference than the stock wifi card?
-
You'll have to add and run another antenna connection if you do that. The Intel 6300 would be the card of choice if you go that route. Otherwise the 6200 has two antennas.
-
would that card come with an extra antenna? IM sure I can just stuff it anywhere couldnt I?
how muhc more range would say I would get???? or how much more speed or connectivity???? Would it be noticable and worth the 40 bucks? -
I've not read anything that indicates the replacement would include an extra antenna. As to coiling it, sort of defeats the purpose, might as well get the 6200.
-
No, you'll have to buy the antenna separately. The best way is to route your antenna to the back of your LCD panel.
-
what kind of a difference would it make in range and quality?? or hte 6200 compared to the stock one in the g73?? anyone know?
-
at best, you'll find an additional signal bar between the 6200 and 6300 (with 3 antennas) given that you are far away from the wireless router. If you're close to the router, there may not be much of a difference.
-
On a similar note, if you want the best wifi range on your laptop, no internal wifi card will beat the wi-fire.

I'm currently using one for my desktop and it picks up 3x more connections than my desktop and laptop internal wifi cards. -
how much of a difference between the 6300/6200 compaired to the Stock wireless in the g73? a few bars differenece>
-
To take full advantage of the 6300 you'll need to take the display apart and run a third antenna. As to the difference between the 6300 and 6200, only the amount of antennas. As to the 6300/6200 vs the stock card, depending on conditions, the significant difference is the max throughput (300 mbps vs 150 mbps).
-
you forgot to mention 5GHz support is added compared to stock
-
will there be a large difference in range?? say both cards at the same distance and conditions??? if so how much difference in range?
-
I just installed the 6300 and I get excellent signal and speeds from my backyard which is a good 150ft, a few concrete walls and normal walls away from my router.
I only have the 2 antenna's attached to it. Best 35 bucks I spent. -
Is this the 6200? I see you said you spent $35 and wasn't sure this was the same thing or maybe missing something.

If you are only going to use two antennas, get the 6200. The 6300 is made for a 3 antennas setup. That's the difference between them.

what are these things?? big time long range USB dongles?? -
High powered external usb wifi cards 500mW-1W
And with external connector you able to connect any high gain antenna, or even use a powered antenna to extend range more.

Looks to me to be slower than the stock wifi card that was included with your G73.
-
slower but longer range?

im not to sure,,, but i think that card gets wayyy longer range,,, im not 100% sure.... there are other USB wireless cards on that site,,, and they get wicked range,, they are powered wireless card with like 2mW or something...... u can get miles of range with that i guesss.... i have been reading up on it a bit... the range is retardedd, but the download speeds are not as good as the 6200.... so in reality its download speed vs range... and i think the range is greater than the speed,, when compairing the two

So which one is more worth it? 6200? or 6300? There seems to be only a 10$ difference between them.
-
the 6300,,, but the 6200 seems easier to install..
-
if u want massive range,, get the usb alfa's they are external,,, but they are 2mW powered... major power,, prolly the same price u will pay for a 6300... im gunna get both for different purposes. 6200 for at home and the alfa 2mW for at work,,, when at differnt locations in the building,,,,
-
What I'm not certain about is whether each antenna has it's own transmitter or whether all three antennas are needed for a proper match on the 6300. In either case, without some sort of on-board protection circuit, not attaching the third antenna could result in damage to the transmitter or reduced effectiveness. -

6200, I put one it and the range inscreased by a 1/4 to 1/3 in 2.4GHz N 40Mhz
(DIR-655) -
thats a decent gain for 30 bucks,,,, im really digging the little alfa cards.. looks like they get some wicked range
-

Is there a range difference between the 6200 and 6300? or is it just the 450MB/s vs 300MB/s?
-
thats what im figuring maybe a slight range once u hook up the third atenna... but alfa has a new 350mb reciever, with mega range..... id get that,, u can also buy optional aplifiers and attenas for it, to even get double the range.......
when decked out with some of the alfa add ons, I bet you can get 5 or 6 times the range than that of a standard wifi card that comes with the g73... which is good for me,,,,, especially when u are visiting peoples house, and want to be a thief and steal free wifi ahah or unprotected wifi.... -
what about the ant. port at the back near the batter, cant an antenna be fitted there?
Anyway to enhance my G73's Range?
