Hi all, I've been lurking on these forums for quite some time, soaking in as much info as I could. I bit the bullet and ordered my G73JH-A1 a while ago and it just came in. I removed all the bloatware and did my standard procedures to it. I was wondering if the community could help with some small things I was wondering.
My relevant specs are:
4/2010 Manufacture Date
206 BIOS
(Not sure what Catalyst Driver version. Couldn't find it. It could possibly be 8.01.01.984, if that's what the 2D driver version means in the Catalyst Control Center.
Stock vBIOS
Stock Clock
Anyway, I hear that SCII doesn't work properly without updated Catalyst drivers. Yet, I played it fine for an hour and a half on ultra, heat only getting to 85C. However, the only oddity I notice is that when cutscenes fade to black, I can still see green pixelated outlines of what used to be there for a couple of seconds. Is this an issue with my old drivers or something else?
If it's a driver issue, I have no problem just dealing with it; it rarely comes up and does not affect gameplay whatsoever. I just wanted to see if anyone was knowledgeable on the matter.
Also, I played Alien Swarm for 30min, Mafia II Demo for 30min; the heat never went over 85C and I didn't notice any graphical glitches. Probably doesn't mean anything in such short bursts, but just putting that out there.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: If anyone goes to Kotaku, when you log in, the login text fades away and your profile name fades in. When this happens, it turns green for a second. Is it just the old drivers unable to handle any kind of fade ins/outs? Just more information in case it helps.

Lol I dont think your SCII problem is a problem, I also see the same thing. I think the videos getting rendered and not getting destoryed and the black is just covering them.

Hm, I never noticed anything in SC2 with 10.1 drivers - the release date or whatever on CCC says 2010.01.xxxxxx. If you are on the bone stock drivers you could try upgrading to 10.1 and see if it makes a difference. If you are feeling risky you can try 10.7a beta drivers [I believe it has some SC2 fix] or 10.8. If you get the dreaded GSOD just uninstall the 10.7a/10.8 > driver sweep to completely clean the drivers > and reinstall 10.1.

How would I find the current driver version? Is it in the Catalyst Control Center? The only thing I wasn't able to run is the FFXIV benchmark, and I don't plan on playing FFXIV anyway. I want to stay on this driver version if possible; why fix what isn't broken? I just hope it isn't some other issue I'm ignoring.

I have artifacts too (Same bios, stock, similar date), they are severe in SC2/WoW with ALL drivers, but I can play BFBC2/MW2 with "almost" no artifacts. The one I see are very small white dots in dark maps.
Artifacts Caused By Old Drivers?
