I will be making a purchasing decision on a new gaming laptop in the reasonably near future and currently have my eye on the ASUS G74SX (announced awhile back). The last laptop I bought quite some time ago was a Dell and it drove me nuts because it required a graphics card driver that only Dell supplied. I could not go to the Nvidia site and download the updated drivers, I had to get them from Dell. And of course they got bored with the model quickly and never released another driver after the first year.

If I buy an Asus with an AMD or Nvidia card will I be able to upgrade drivers from the graphics card manufacturer like I do for my desktop computers?

    Thanks

The answer is probably yes. Cant say I have seen too many custom releases on ASUS laptops and even if there was one it was a bug fix that was later not needed.

Of course. With Asus you won't ever have this problem. I've already upgraded my graphics drivers quite a few times.
