Nice find dude, I would rep you, but apparently I've repped you recently
-
Looks nice, but not easy
Have fun!
@simon: hows you new laptop in comparison? -
I'm really happy with it, except for few bugs like my eSata not working, and my second hard drive dissappearing :S
-
Added to Info Booth. Thanks!
-
Gads! And to think I went to all the trouble to call Asus! They gave me a lot of hullaballo just to have them send me this same file! Sometimes I wonder if those inside the company walls even look at these forums.
Oh well. I'm just glad to see it's here.
Warm Regards,

if i wanted to permanently "turn off" the light bar and logo led's, would it cause any issues to simply unplug them from the led inverter board and leave them unplugged? would there be any load issues or anything (e.g. not enough resistance because of the decreased load, etc)? Also, would I need to insulate or otherwise secure the disconnected cables/inputs?
thanks. -
nice find! now I want one more. Look like the GPU is practically made for upgrading. an7mO I dont have 100% certain answer about unpluggin led's causing problem, but I'd say I would do it to mine and not worry about it. You wouldnt need to insulate where wires connect to, but you might need to insulate and secure (tape down or something) the ends going to the leds that you unplugged-IF they are exposed. if they are sleeved etc (like MB header connectors, then no need. Wouldnt want them to touch something else and short it etc. yeah I hate those leds. I dont even like the idea of them being there, even if they are unplugged lol. I hate the orange too, and the gay federation of nerdly gamers logos too. other than that, I love it lol.
-
For the housing itself, are the orange trims connected to the black plastics in some way? Or is it just one piece of plastic with different paint?
-
The GPU is replaceable, but only with Asus's proprietary 9700M GT or 9800M GS GPU.
I think the orange trim is just painted over with. -
is this pretty much identicle for a g50vt-x5?
-

In the one part is shows the Turbo Memory which uh I don't have in my G50VT-A1, but do we know if the slot for it is still there? Because I'd like to install one of those AverMedia mini PCI-E TV tuners and actually use that stupid antenna port on the left side of my laptop.

Even so I am not sure. I believe that on the G50 has the VBIOS integrated into the main BIOS. So you would need the BIOS from the newer G50 version; and if that new BIOS does not work due to other hardware differences, you're out of luck (and perhaps with a bricked laptop as well).
Another way would be to rip the VBIOS and start mashing together a custom BIOS, but I wouldn't even know how to start doing that. -
my G50V is different compared to this one and i am having problems dissembling it ><

From my experience so far my G50VT has been the same as the guide. I havent done a full disassemble yet though the screen is coming apart soon enough. -
-
I just bought one so the layout is the same but it is a little bit harder to remove things because everything is more tightly together. I just need to find the battery so I can reset the BIOS. I have the same problem as this guy on this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=327218
I wasn't trying to give a bad impression, I am no professional at taking stuff apart. Do you think if I took it to a repair shop and just asked them to remove the battery for a couple minutes then put it all back together, would they do it? -
I'm assuming you're referring to the BIOS battery. You don't need to remove that in order to reset the BIOS. There should be a small pin-sized hole underneath the notebook.
-
Yes the bios battery. I tried hitting that reset button, when it was off, on, and with my laptop battery removed. I also tried holding it for a couple seconds, still it didnt work.
-
Any chance of replacing the keyboard for one with backlight as the G51?
Is there any one that has the same fittings of the g50vt? -
What is the quickest way to remove the bios battery?

Does anyone know what the component below the CPU is? is that the northbridge of the motherboard?
When replacing the CPU, do I need to replace the thermal paste on "that unknown component" as well?
Thanks in advance. -
I think it would be better, yes, as the old thermal paste will likely have hardened, will be broken upon removal, and it isn't likely to make very good contact again.
-
Does anyone have a similar guide for the G71G (or G71Gx)?
If I wanted to completely disable all the case LEDs, would it be OK (and safe) to open the display and just disconnect the cable mentioned in step 4. on page 2-25? -
Why the heck did they make the video card of the G1Sn so hard to get to? Have to disassemble the entire notebook just to apply some AS5. Seems so much easier with the G50...
-
Damnit they never showed how to remove the plastic cover on the ODD module, anyone wanna shed some light on this?
-
If so, you can open the tray and they are made to come off(Be it snap in place or screws). -
Yes I am refering to exactly that.
And I know it's made to come off, but I can't get the last snap to unhook (there's 4 in total). -
Anyone know a part # for a Bluetooth module and if it is possible to add in a mini pci-e tv tuner?
-
It's a few monthes old question, but as I have the answer... To remove the plastic bezel in front of the ODD you have to remove in first the hook on the side (the easiest to reach), then lift the bezel from this same side to easily release the two center hooks, and finally, slide the whole bezel a few millimeters to the opposite side to allow the the last hook to slide a little to make it possible to release. That's it!
But I am not sure if this is like standard, and if it is compatible with a new ODD (planning to buy a BR burner).
Hope it will help.

Anyone know how to tighten the hinges on this thing? My left hinge is very loose.

Has anybody attempted to stiffen the centre section of the keyboard by placing something in there?
-
Hi, David. I wonder if you have same manual for G71GX or 72GX laptops. I really wish to change thermo paste on my CPU and GPU. Hope you will help me.
-
Awesome guide thanks for posting. I have one question. Can you remove the keyboard without removing all of the previously mentioned items? Also is there a easy way to install a new key? I ask because my left arrow key broke off and was lost and I would like to replace the keyboard but I am weary of a full disassembly. Thanks for any help.
-
would this be the same procedure fore a G51?

Everything should be up and running now. -
Wow, thanks, David. Very nice of you to give to the community like that
-
Just replaced my keyboard using this guide. Thanks so much. Asus has one of the easiest keyboard replacement procedures. Just pop four tabs and take out two screws.

Hi David Very nice guides
I´m wondering if you haven´t go a Asus F9S Disassembly Guide!
If You do Please post it.
Many thanks and well done!
