I firstly have to say thanks to this forum for great help, most of the things i know abut the asus g50 i´ve read here...
But i am having a little bit of difficulty, i bought one used with broken VGA card.
I can´t seem to know my exact model because the serial is smudged off.
But it came with the 9800m GS, i know it is upgradeble to 260m but i was wondering if it was downgradable to this Wholesale nVIDIA Gefore 9700M GT graphics card MXM II 512MB DDR3 VGA graphics Card for Asus G50V G50VT this is not from asus but it´s an reversed mxm..... (serial is the same on 9700m GT)
I asked asus.com this question
"My computer came with graphics card sn: NSZVG1000-A03. nvidia 9800m GS, it is
fried, can it be replaced with npyvg1000-b01 which is the nvidia 9700m GT? "
And the answer i got was, "go talk to reseller"..... there are no resellers in my country... this is a US type laptop and i´m from iceland.
I´m also wondering if i could "downgrade" to a m50 graphics card or something, just the cheapest way to fix this?
Also reflowing didn´t turn up quite so well, did it twice with this video card but only with luck for a few minutes (then Code 43 again)

Trouble is a manufacturer will probably say no even if it does work because they wont guarantee something when you could turn round and say it blew up your computer and burnt down you house and its their fault.
Best way to find out is to try it and see because unless someone who visits here has attempted it the likelyhood of you finding out is low. The Digits of the two cards add up but still its a suck it and see trial.
Lastly why go down? I had 2 8700M GT's in SLI and a 9700 is just a relabed 8700 and trust me two were dire so one is going to be no improvement and if its battery life you seek that is not the laptop for it.
I would go with a 260M if I were you its a very good card and still handles games quick comfortably at mid range settings. -
I can´t seem to find 9800m gs for cheap, it´s like 300 bucks new. same goes for the 260m. I have a xbox 360 for gaming so i´m not that much in a hurry for a "huge" upgrade, i only want what is the cheapest.
if i downgrade do I have to modify the heatshink or something like that?
Also it´s not that much of a downgrade if i got the computer with a broken vga card.
If someone is having the same problem, 9700m gt will not fit. that is the same card that will fit m50 i think... they at least look alike. so only cards available for this machine is 9800m gs or 260m ? (asus reversed mxm ones from g50/g60)
