Received brand new G501 today that has a FHD screen, the Asus website spec the G501 with IPS and the supplier spec it with IPS, but when I opened it up first thing I noticed was colour shift and washed out colours.

Why the hell did I get such a ****e panel what is meant to be a decent notebook. I brought this under the presumption that I was buying a notebook is a nice wide viewing angle and nice colour IPS panel.

The panel is AU Optronics AUO36ED

    AUO36ED

    Monitor Name (Manuf): AUO B156HTN03.6

Is there any way I can get rid of the panel. I am doubting that the supplier fault, as Asus supplies them with the spec. And I doubt the supplier will accept the unit back, as not really their problem.

If I cannot return this, then how can I replace the panel for a real IPS panel? The G501 display looks really well sealed up around the bezel. Anyone know how to get into this unit?

I'd take it back and demand it replaced. That panel is also one of the WORST FHD TN panels as well.

G501 FHD should come with Samsung SDC324C IPS or similar panel. The SDC324C is one of the better FHD panels with full sRGB coverage and decent contrast.

Yeah I had a look at the panel it is really bad, the same one that was used in the Y50.
With the Y50 there are many guides on how to get it out and replace the panel, but nothing with the G501.

My problem is here the G501 just came out about 4 weeks ago and there is only one basic model with the same spec/model number. It is probable that all from that batch were manufactured at the same plant with the same panel.

However the supplier, I know who it is due to the packaging tape that is wrapped in the company's name sent on their behalf, has it G501 listed as IPS.

U.S. Are fine only one highend 4K model, most of the world had FHD.
I read every review out there, not one had I come across, any model 4K or FHD, had a TN panel inside.
If I had of known the lower spec G501 was sold with a TN panel in any shape or form, I would of never have brought it.

If you feel the unit was mis-sold it most certainly is the suppliers problem. Legally.

I call the suppliers this morning (who actually supplied the product), they push me back to the online seller. Then quickly removed IPS from their website a few minutes after I called.

At this stage considering getting a IPS panel as replacement from Ali Express, not that I should be doing this on brand new 1 day old notebook. This will void my warranty if I do so (which be rather stupid), and there is no info on how to get the bezel off the G501 with breaking/damaging it, not to mention I have to pay more and risk importing a panel from overseas and hope for the best.
Only thinking about doing the above as really like the notebook, no other supplier around with any other models either as far as I know at this stage, due to small market.

You often get different display connectors for the two types just so you are aware.

These panels are all 30 pins and eDP. What is the difference between the B156HTN03.6 that I got as a TN in this machine?

This is what I got B156HTN03.6

This is what should be in the Asus G501 unit (same as many MSI Ghost GS60) Samsung 156HL01-102 (SDC324C)

Updated Asus models are using this panel LP156WF4-SPH1
