Hi, as stated in the title I'm having problems with my fan. I've spent hours searching for a solution, but haven't found one that works.
When I start my laptop, sometimes (often) the fan won't start spinning. I downloaded SpeedFan to monitor temperatures, and even when the GPU reaches 100C+ the fan still sits there motionless until the computer shuts itself down. The only reliable way I've found to start it up is to open up the bottom, and manually spin the fan. After a while it starts going on its own, but this clearly isn't a permanent solution.
Even when the fan is working, it's still buggy. The speed seems to be only loosely tied to temperature. While gaming it'll jump between 50% and 100% speed while the temperature creeps up up until the game starts stalling and I notice and quickly move the laptop onto the AC unit.
I'll buy a cooling pad if there's no other option, but I'd like to try other options. I've found some software solutions, but nothing that works with this model. The most promising right now seems to be RW-Everything. The values that seem to control fan speed are 90-03 and 90-04.
From my observations, 90-04 controls the fan speed. When the fan is running close to max it's always 01. The value increases as fan speed decreases, but doesn't go higher than 06 during normal operation.
90-03 jumps all over the place. I assume it fine tunes the speed or something, and it's always 00 when the fan isn't running at all.
While I know that these two values are related to the fan, I can't edit them. Changing the value does nothing, it just reverts back to what it was before after a few seconds. I thought posting here first to see if anyone could help would be better than blind experimentation with other values.
There's some other issues that aren't as important, but might be related so I'll list them here.
While the fan is running at 50% it often makes loud continuous clanking sounds like it's hitting against its case, but when the speed goes up to 100% the noise stops.
Every couple of minutes the keyboard will stop working for 3-4 seconds and then start again. Anything entered in that time is lost. I wouldn't mention this here except that it only started recently, as did the fan problems.
It's quite a list of problems, and I realize the machine is reaching the end of its life expectancy. I'm just hoping to get a few more months out of it before having to replace it.
Sorry for the wall of text; it ended up longer than I intended. I would greatly appreciate help from anyone with the patience to read all the way through.![]()

Why not just ebay yourself a matching fan and replace it?

As I said, I'm planning to buy a new laptop soon. At least with a cooling fan I can still reuse it afterwards.
I know that people have used RW Everything to force the fan with other models. I was just wondering if anyone's found out how to do it with the G50. -

If you have to manually start the fan with your fingers, it's probably a busted motor. The hardest part for a fan's motor is starting up. You need a new fan. There's a thread here with some possibilities: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...-asus-g50vt-x1-fan-problem-3.html#post7418781

Thanks for the help. After searching fans turned out cheaper than I expected, so I ordered one. Hopefully replacing it will solve this problem.
