Hey everyone,
I have run into a recently with my G50V-A2. MY Direct Console hotkey just stopped working. MY setup is non-raid, vista 64bit home prem that came with the laptop.
I had not used it for a few days and the only other software I had installed was a registered version of Daemon Tools. I yanked that off to see if it caused the issue but I still have the problem. The OSD works and those hotkeys work, as I can disable/enable the touchpad, change power4gear power profiles and boot to expressgate. Also when I hit he Direct Console button, it "flashes" just like it does when I hit the other buttons, but nothing happens. I am just looking to see if any of you have any more ideas. Here is what I have tried so far:
1. I tried a "repair" install of Direct Console 2. This actually caused a file ownership issue and Direct Console would not run at all after this. I had to fix the ownership on all the files, then I removed Direct Console 2 and reinstalled fresh from my drivers CD. No go.
2. I removed ASUS OSD2 and ASUS Hotkey drivers and installed the beta ones listed on the website. No change, still not working.
3. I removed the OSD2 and HOTKEY beta drivers and reinstalled the ones from the CD. I also removed and installed direct console again. Still not working.
4. I went ahead and removed OSD2, HOTKEY, Direct Console and ASUS Generic Function Server. I installed each piece, one at a time (install and reboot) directly from the CD. Still not working.
Now here is the one interesting thing I have noticed. I cannot launch Direct Console from the Start Menu either. The only way I can launch Direct Console is double-clicking or right-clicking the tray icon to open it. The start menu icon has a graphic (doesn't seem to be a broken shortcut).
Any thoughts?

I'm have the same issue with my G50v-X1. I updated the driver from ASUS site and after that its not working..

Try uninstalling direct console again, and removing all of its residual program files/appdata and registry keys after the uninstall, and then reinstall.
It sounds like something got corrupted and needs to be manually removed before it can be installed... hopefully it is just direct console. Good luck. -
Same here with my G50v A-1. While i would love to have them back but i'm thinking this is a good thing... now i can't hit it and mini my games.
-
Mine is broke as well.
-
As is mine, and mine even crashes on startup...fun times.

I'm having the same issue here

I get this error everytime I boot...
Microsoft Visua C++ Runtime Library:
Runtime Error!
Program: ...ogram Files (x86)\ASUS\Direct Console\Direct Console.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the applications's support team for more information. -

Did anyone try uninstalling and removing ALL registry keys and program files then reinstalling?
-
I uninstalled Direct Console, ran in safe more and ran CCcleaner on my registry, and reinstalled...still nothing...same old error on boot. My little display just shows the 'Republic of Gamers' thing and I can't accent the program when I hit the button or load it from Start menu.
-
mine crashes on startup one out of 5 times maybe, otherwise it works but It will RANDOMLY think that I hit the media center key while it's in sleep mode and turn back on. Very annoying

Alright I re-installed Microsoft C++ Runtime Library and Direct Console. The Asus tech support kept saying to download DC version 3.0 but the latest I could find on their site is 2.0.5. Anyways by doing all that I was able to load up my system without the error anymore, but could not open Direct Console with the hot key. So i tried loading it up by using the start menu and the little icon shows up in the bottom right but when i click on it, the DC screen is all garbled. But if I right click on the icon and click 'Run As Adminstrator' it loads up and after about 2 minutes the screen comes up as normal.
So as of now all I can run Direct Console, but only if I run it from the start menu and 'as administrator' which my profile already is.
Very odd and confusing! -

Nah that actually makes sense, thanks for posting the fix!

I only have the hotkey problem but where did you find the DC 2.05 at (link plox)

Still having the hotkey issue here...

They have beta version of Atkhotkey:

And beta version of ATK OSD2:

The download links are all down right now, I was only able to download ATKOSD2 earlier but it's now down again, so just keep on trying. -
well it seems, for now, everything is working.
Reinstalled the Microsoft C++ Runtime Library
Reinstalled Direct Console
Reinstalled anything involving the words 'ATK'
and that seemed to have done it. -

still having the problem
-
I also have this problem. Tried reinstalling the C++ redistributable with no luck.
-
Well I am having this issue too. Earlier today I installed BIOS 205 and the beta hotkey and ATKOSD2, I tried a system restore (since the betas didn't solve the issus I was having) but they still don't work (even though they were working before).
I don't know what else I could have changed. Actually one of the buttons does work, the power mode one but not the others.
Could it have been the bios? since it still says I have 205 (from 204) even after restore? -
-
Ok so I have 3 of the 4 hotkeys working now.
Power key - never stopped working for me
Direct Console key - At first I just tried re-installing from the CD but it didn't help.
Next I upgraded to 207 bios and installed Direct Console 2.0.5 over my 2.0.3 and it started working again.
Touchpad key - installed the latest driver from the Synaptics site (no idea if it was newer than the one on my system) and now it works too. http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm
Media Center key isn't opening any thing, I will see about re-installing that later. Much thanks (actually complete thanks) to GenTechPC for the help! -
Hi, I have a pretty similar problem with my g50v a1 but my direct console just doesn't work at all (via hotkey or just running it from the exe). I'm interesting in trying out the beta bios 2.07, but unfortunately i can't seem to send pm's (maybe because this is a new account or something). Anways I was wondering if someone can show me where to get the bios either through pm's or emailing me. Thanks in advance.
-
I'm using G50vx-1 (Best Buy model) and I recently instaleed BIOS 209.
I've had the same exact problems and now the Media Center Key isn't opening anything, even with the updated ATK drivers.
has anyone come around with a fix? -
I had this problem, however it didnt start until i turned off the User Account Control. Not thinking that might be the problem i did everything else tryin to figure out how to fix this problem, but when I tried a last ditch effort of turning the User Account Control back on... it suddenly works like it is supposed to. Could this be a solution for someone else? I hope it helps.

UPDATE:
Well after leaving the problem alone for a few weeks, (I had direct console uninstalled) I thought I would try installing it again and it suddenly worked with no problems.
I didn't update the bios... ever

Hey guys, is anyone still having this problem?
I didn't have this problem before, but after multiple times of recovery it happened!
I thought it was an easy fix, but it seems to me that it could be because of the order of installation of certain programs?
I tried everything, and so far no luck! -
Hello all, I'm new here. I bought my Laptop Asus G50V-X5 or at least that's what I think it is haha anyway I got it from best buy. I was taking my computer out of my bag today and heard a pop when I grabbed it so I thought I had broke it because the display that shows battery level and such is garbled, it shows the battery level but also still shows the beginning "Republic of Gamers" logo underneath it. So needless to say I was freaking out. Then I restarted my computer thinking that might help and when it restarted I got a C++ error for Direct Console. Google I go, and I discover this thread. I don't know if this is my problem however, I have enjoyed reading it. Not being as tech savy as I'd like I am too afraid to mess with the registery. Does anyone have an opponion on taking the laptop to best buy to have it looked at since I got the warranty?

I'm still having these issues. I'm using all the latest ATK drivers and BIOS 213.
I've tried several versions of Direct Console to no avail. I also tried the C++ business, no joy. -
Hi! Did anyone solve this problem?? I have the same issue with my asus G71 A1.
I deleted the MS Office 2007 using "Revo Uninstaller" and i suppose that some necessary records in register were deleted. So, now i always have a message when i log in:
"Runtime Error!
...\Direct Console.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."
I've already reinstalled the Microsoft C++ Runtime Library (from here-> 64 bit:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en),
reinstalled Direct Console 2.0 (from my support CD), ATK0100 driver (from my support CD), ATK_Hotkeys (from my support CD), ATKMedia (from my support CD), ATKOSD2 (from my support CD) but it haven't helped...
I really can't understand why it works when i choose "Run as administrator" in Start menu... In what a difference?...
If you solved this problem, please tell me how. Thanks.
