Well, my sound works when headphones are plugged in but I can't seem to get the speakers to work. Anyone else ever encounter this?
Thanks,
Nick

Have you turned off play POST sound in the BIOS? If you have, this could cause the onboard speakers to not work.
-
Afaik the BIOS volume options only affect the volume of system beeps. I mucked around with the settings from 0 to 8 and they did not affect my sound levels in Vista.

happened a couple of times on my desktop.. sound manager 'speaker' volume set to zero accidentally n unknowingly and i was tryin to figure out wat went wrong with the speakers

I had the same problem. I had to send my g50vt back to ASUS for a motherboard replacement, according to official forums, a lot of G1S users also had this problem, they say that the phone jack sucks and after repair the problem comes back in about 1 month.
-
Crap. That is what I was afraid of...
-
That happened sometimes on my Asus G1S - A1. To resolve it (i don't know whether this works for you or not) I just unplugged the headphones, moved the volume control to zero and then back up. It usually solved the problem for me.
-
That didn't work. Asus also had me try a hardware reset which did not work either...

You should be able to just plug in a pair of headphones, and then just unplug them. Just make sure to turn the master volume up as well.

Sorry to bump this topic, my Jack port failed again, but this time i decided to find a solution that does not involves replace a whole motherboard. So, i`ve managed to manually override the sound output, here it is:
But before... Warning: I can't measure the effects of this change, as far as i know it will override ALL jack ports. I'm still trying to find the value that matches only with Line-Out port. And, for now, you need to reboot the PC to make it work. So, if you want to try this it will be at your own risk.
Ok, assuming you are using Realtek HD Audio Driver, in regedit, go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
in there are a enumerated sequence of sub-keys in my case, from 0000 to 0007.
Search for the one that has a subkey named "Settings". This key has a value named "ForceDisableJD" with a value set (probably) to "00", double click it and change to "FF"
Reboot your computer.
For me it worked fine. -
I just tried this fix and it works great except when you plug headphones in they play as well as the laptop speakers!
-
Were can it be? -
Anyone? Still LOOKING
-
This does work but as has been pointed out the headphones and internal speakers play audio at the same time when headphones are plugged in.
I noticed there is a JackCtrl registry entry directly below the ForceJD one which is set to 7f 44 00 00 would that possible be something that we could change to get the issue resolved?
