I guess the DVD optical head on my G50VT-X1 went south. My drive would still read CDs fine, but would no longer read or write DVDs. So I'm just thinking of replacing it.

Any good recommendations that would perfectly fit this notebook?
Preferably something that can read blurays too (apart from reading and writing
    CDs and DVDs of course).

I tried googling, but I couldn't find one that certainly states that it will
    fit this notebook.

Basically any slim optical drive will fit but you will need to take the bezel off and attach it to the new drive. The original one is a HL-DT-ST GSA-T50L. There may be new firmware for that drive. Check here and select Notebook and then Optical Drive firmware: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

    Quick specs I found:

    Model: GSA-T50L
    Manufactory: Hitachi-LG
    Rate: 8X DVDRW max
    Buffer Size: 2 MB
    Height: 12.7mm
    Interface: SATA
    Booting: Slave
    Disk Load: Tray (Not Slot)

Yes, that's exactly the drive that I have.

Are the bezel mounting points of optical drives universal? I mean, no matter which slim optical drive brand I get, it is guaranteed that the bezel from the old drive will perfectly fit the new drive?

Or could you point me to a few links or optical drives that have been tried
and tested to work and fit properly on this notebook? Thanks! :)
