I have a Asus G50VT-X5 laptop from best buy which i have had for about a year. Over the past week the network adaptor has been acting up and showing unidentified network with limited contectivity so i looked around and found a suggestion to unistall it and re-install. I did so with the drivers provided on the disc it came with. All went fine and it says its in working order and the drivers are up to date.
The problem is it isn't working even though it says it is. The the blue wireless console icon in system tray has an X in the bottom right hand corner. The front switch says "Wireless LAN OFF" either way i switch it. If I hit Fn + F2 I can get i to say "Wireless LAN ON" and the X in the system tray goes off but after about 10 sec it turns itself off and the X is back.
If anyone has any ideas im open cause ive tried everything i can think of.
The wireless adapter is a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN
if you need to know anything else let me know. Thanks in advanced for you help.

Bump, need help please
-
might be sill but, is the wireless switch on your laptop off? its on the front.
-
-
And it is enabled in device manager?
-
yep and it says when you double click on it "This device is working properly."
-
im out of ideas, but it could be a software issue.
have you installed drivers for anything else recently?
try uninstalling wireless console. its not really necessary anyways. -
no no new drivers installed other than just the ones for the network drive.
anyone else have any ideas -
Bump. Some has to have some idea.
-
Did you uninstall wireless console? Uninstall all network related drivers (not just the one for your card) then ONLY install the driver for your wireless card (get it from the intel site, just to switch it up).
-
Yeah I've tried it and the drivers on intels site don't work they won't even go in but the ones on the asus disk will go in. Still no luck
-
hmm weird i had a similar problem but it was fixed after turning the front switch to on.
-
I had the same problem and it was related to the front switch.
This is very strange.
I'm bumping because I really hope someone can help this guy! -
Are you sure it's a wireless network it's connecting to, and perhaps not a virtual adapter? Also, have you attached to any ad-hoc networks ever? Ad-hoc networks stay in Windows until you delete them manually.

I started having this same problem yesterday. The wireless lan is not working but the device is working properly according to the device manager. When I hit the fn + F2 key to turn the wireless on, it always says "Wireless Lan OFF." It's supposed to toggle to "on" but it doesn't. I'm updated to the latest Network adapter drivers. Any other ideas?
-
I found the answer. There's an on/off switch for the lan on the front of the laptop. It got switched to off somehow. Now, when I hit fn +f2, it toggles on/off.

I hate it when that happens.
-
Ok well i still need help
ive tried all the suggestions and i finall got the drivers on intels site to work but it still says its in working order but it not.
any more ideas -
dude i'm having the same problem, i have an asus g50vt and when i turn it on and it goes into windows 7 and there is no wifi network card. to fix it i go into device manager uninstall it, then scan for hardware changes and it reinstalls it, then it works fine. but i have to do this EVERY TIME I LOAD UP MY LAPTOP. holy it is so annoying I can't find out what it is. and talking to asus support is about as useless as a bucket with a hole in it.
ANY IDEAS PEOPLE? -
Did you try Fn+F2/anything else previously mentioned in this thread?
-
Yeah man. The only way to get it too work is too uninstall it from device manager then let windows 7 reinstall it. I guess I could try downloading the driver manually..... But I think an update has stopped it working.... Typical microsoft!!!!
Any other ideas would be appreciated =] -

You could also try the procedures I tried:
