I've been searching high and low for a place to buy the little hard drive bracket piece that holds an additional drive in the empty drive bay but can't find anything other than a few remote sites that charge upwards of 50 or 60$ for this little piece of metal. The asus site doesn't have it in stock either. Could anyone point me to a reputable location that charges something reasonable?

Here is the part in case anyone is unclear about what I'm asking for:

ASUS Laptop Part | G50V 2nd bay drive caddy, includes 4 drive mounting screws

    Thanks in advance.

a while back I was looking for some, I never bought any because I bought an external hard drive.

Laptop HP Pavilion DV8210us Hard Drive Caddy Bracket - eBay (item 170537043914 end time Nov-05-10 13:04:03 PDT)

Search on ebay for asus laptop drive caddys, I found a few.

But I think any laptop caddy will work since they all work the same way. If you look at your product page and mine, they look different but they both have holes in the same place, I'm not 100% sure.

Make sure if you don't have the screws that you buy a listing that include them or get them at a local store.

50$ for a bracket is absolutely outrageous considering my preorder includes a 2nd 500gb hdd for 40$!

I bought one from Zandparts in Europe ( same as G51 I think)...

Great people to deal with and was much cheaper than the scalpers were offering on ebay due to the rarity of the parts, if it's not the same part email the guys and ask if they can get the correct part... ;)

Delivered in less than two weeks, but because it's OEM you'll have to ask them for the screws the genuine part comes with...

You might find this handy if you haven't already discovered it...

    Regards,
    Dave

Thanks so much for the link and information Dave, I'll check out that site and see if I can figure out if they have a compatible one for the G50. Also thanks for the disassemble guide however I've already taken it apart in the past to replace the thermal compound with arctic silver and swap out the fan (10C temperature change w00t ).

    *edit*
Ouch.. looks like the asusparts.eu site charges 20€ for shipping O_O I guess that's better than the other site still but sheesh.. Anyone know of any sites that are based in America? Additional links are appreciated.

No worries... Yes, sorry I forgot about that postage price...

Still worked out cheaper than the other options by a good margin.

I used AS5 on mine and did the GTX while I was there, also blew out the fan unit and cooling fins too. Agreed the difference was noticeable.

Try asking some of the guys in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/411871-asus-g51-cooling-mod.html
