    Hello,

    Hoping someone can help me,

I'm using an Asus G50vt on XP and it's been very irritating sometimes that my laptop just shuts off for no reason, no BSODs, nothing at all then I have to remove the battery and the supply and plug it back in in order to turn it on again. Then occasionally it shuts off again. Sometimes, it even resets the settings in the BIOS!

It's not an overheating issue I'm sure because sometimes the temperature stays stable but it just shuts off.

    Many thanks in advance,

    ryu31337

Does it happen on battery power?

Does it happen with no battery on AC only?

It definitely sounds like some sort of power issue, hard to know where or why.

Have you modified the G50 at all? It could be a simple short somewhere from a loose connection, but randomly resetting the CMOS usually implies a power issue, or a faulty mobo.

Edit: Also, when this happens, make sure there are no peripherals attached.

I haven't modified my Laptop except for the fact that I'm running on XP (with all the XP drivers from here), which is not offcially supported by Asus.

i don't remember when i took my laptop apart if there are caps on the board or not but ,

normally this points to a power supply issue - maybe a capacitor or something like that

Very interesting, I unplug every peripherals out and there are only 2 cables coming into my laptop: the Power Cable and Ethernet, no mice nor earphones and so far it hasn't shut down yet.

I had a razer mouse one time that had a bad cable, and it would short out and my system would trip. I can still plug this mouse in to any of my laptops and it will do the same thing.

If it still happens with nothing plugged in, try to rule out the battery, and then it's onto something on your motherboard.
