I know I should have bought the G51 from the get-go if i was planning to use a quad core, ButI just got my G50vt and upgraded the gpu to a gtx 260m.
Since it cant use quad core CPU's namely, the QX9300, I was wondering if i could just buy the G51 motherboard cheap and switch it out with my G50 one to add said support, and essentially turn it into a G51... (I like the G50vt-x1's case better than the white G51 though :] )
I was consulting this: Asus G51VX-RX05 Motherboard AS-IS!!!!! - eBay (item 120577632856 end time Jul-31-10 01:48:34 PDT)
and comparing the picture to this:

(Where they show the top and bottom of the motherboard...)
Thanks guys!

I think the only difference between a G50 motherboard and a G51 motherboard is that the G51 doesn't need a chipset heatsink. So you will probably need to buy a new cpu cooler as well if you want to change that motherboard.

hmmm i dont see why it still wouldnt fit if it was in the same spot, and having a heatsink on it wouldnt be a bad thing, only make it run cooler.
Thanks for the insight man :] -

It depends on the version of G51. The G51vx is almost identical to the G50, and uses an extremely similar heatsink. The G51j or G51jx use an i7 CPU, so yes, you'd need a new heatsink. -
Not to dig up a dead thread but did u ever do the swap?
