Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum but ive been around here a bit...
Anyways, I own an Asus G50vt-x5 and after about a year or two of using it very impresively, the fps started to drop everytime my GPU's temp went at around 110
I looked everywhere on the forums and found nothing.
So I went on to Radioshack and bought Thermal Paste.
I attempted to reapply thermal paste.
Ever since, it would turn on then after about a min or two ittle auto shutdown.
Now, it doesnt even turn on. ( Well for like 10 seconds )
I need your help into telling me what should I buy to replace on my laptop since I really liked this machine
-
Did you apply thermal paste properly, and did you mount the heatsink assembly back on correctly? Even a minute difference in space can mean the difference between a stable laptop and overheating.
-
well after it was shutting down after like 2 minutes of being on, I reopened it and smoothed out all the thermal paste. It looked better than before so I really dont understand whats going on...
I dont see any excessive paste on the processors either. -
over 110* celcius? lol ur FPS dropped because it was downclocking..im surprised you didnt burn it XD
if it turns on for atleast 10 secs like you said it may be still oveheating..maybe the thermal pads on the GPU aren't well placed or something..
i would recommend you open it up, clean all the thermal paste...clean the heatsinks, and reapply the thermal paste... make sure all heatsinks sit right where they belong and are secure...
if it works or not...come back here maybe your GPU or CPU are fried or about to.. -
Btw, this downgrading problem at 110degrees is old news. Right now it only starts up for 10 seconds and doesnt do anything then shuts off :/ -
1.did you remove the old paste with isotropic alcohol or another form of thermal paste remover.
2. Did you reapply a pea size amount of thermal paste in the middle.
3. Did you screw everything in place, evenly tight.
4. Did you reconnect any heat sink fans.
Make sure you have completed all these steps.

Dsnt the GPU in that machine use a thermal pad, therefore when he uses paste not making contact, immediate overheat and auto shutdown?
-
I dont get any image the first 10 seconds...
I used to before I reopened it and attempted to refix the thermal paste.
Which just made it worse... =/
Im not looking for you guys to ask me what I did, I need to know whats dead on my machine -
-
This is a picture of the CPU and whatever is next to it. Is there anything visible wrong with it???
-
To help you, we need to know what you did, impossible to say from a picture if silicon is good or bad. -
Are your thermal pads still intact and making contact with your GPU?
Also, if you turn the machine off for a few minutes, does it stay on longer than after it's been powered up for a bit? -
did you check for dust in the fan?
-
When my 8600M GT died in my ASUS the last moments before it died I saw massive screen tearing and hugely distorted images while the computer locked up. I booted it up and the windows logon screen was torn heavily. Each progressive bootup got worse until the laptop could be heard turning on, but no image was displayed. That is what happens when your GPU dies.

Nothing looks to be visibly wrong except the gpu witch is probably the thing next to it as you describe it.
-Hope that helps

I took the CPU off and Replaced it in again to see if that was the problem but still the same :/
-
It could also be your gpu that came slightly out of its socket, try making sure it is also in, are there any lights on the machine, does it seem like it would be on except there is nothing being displayed or fan noises.
I will need bit more information so I can try to triangulate the issue.
if it really is the graphic card that has suffered from heat issues you might be able to revive it by blowing out hot air with a hair dryer directly on the gpu but if does work it will only work temporarily until the heat from the card de -mends the joints. But then at least you will know exactly that your gpu was the problem.
BUT I DO WARN IF NOT DONE CORRECTLY IT MAY DAMAGE COMPONENTS.

I pushed the GPU in as much as I can. The lights do turn on as usual and everything. Fan runs and looks as if ittle start up to the Republic of Gamers Logo but thats when it goes *boom* :/ lol
-
Could it be your ram, make sure that thats in; I know this getting ridiculous but i do not think that anything is damaged it looks like something is simply not connected. Did you also turn the circular retention peace for cpu with a flat head screw driver.
-
Also, yea my cpu is nice and tightly secured -
Hope, something work out!!!

Hey guys, so I just turned on my laptop today and now its not randomly shutting down!!! xD but now, nothing will show up on the screen...
Any Sudgestions? Its like on but not loading or something... -
Did you make sure the Hard drive is properly secured, it seems the more you post the more it seems like your computer suffers from a dead GPU, i previously owned a hp tx 1000 and that whole series had a cooling problem that fried the GPU, my solution heat the gpu section with a hair dryer and it worked, obviously it was only temporary until the gpu would heat up and desolder the lead. But what am proposing is you heat up the bottom of your laptop (where the GPU is) be careful not to over expose it to the heat but heat for arround 2 - 3 min then try turning it on, if it does not work the first time try it again and again, if this works it means your gpu was in fact fried and you might be able RMA, if not it means its another problem.

Ive had where it turns on but nothing shows but a black screen, the ram wasnt pushed in all the way, had to force it downwards when it was seated.
-
Ya thats what I was thinking.
Lets See
Ill give news in a bit
edit...
Nope Aint Work =/ -
*bump* =/ Help please
-
*Bump* Idk what to do :/
Is it the CPU or GPU?!?!?!
