    Hello & good day,

-I have a G51J (with MB ver. G60Jx; but inputting serial number on Asus Support website redirects to G51Jx) with a fan that just stopped yesterday. Well, it's actually my friend's laptop that has been sent to me for repair.

-The fan will spins slowly for 1 or 2 second at low speed and then stops for a while, and then spins again for another 1-2 seconds. Even if we cranked up either the CPU and GPU (GTS 360M) loads, the fan stays the same until it overheats. Removing PWM and tacho pins/wires (and left just the power) don't help.

-When I pulled out my (working) fan from my HP 6535b (rewired all the the 4 pins to fit) and connect to the board, the fan spins continuously (at high speed) as expected - proving that it's really the original fan's that really faulty.

-My question: how do I repair or replace the fan? This fan is attached/built directly to the metal cover that's part of the heatsink (refer attached photos). Replacing the entire heatsink unit is really costly and unnecessary.

-Any help is really, really appreciated. :notworthy:

It will likely be a custom sized fan so really replacing the entire heatsink assembly is probably your best option.

-Thanks, and sorry for the late update. I already ordered Forcecon F8U5 (17 blades) for the replacement & planning to do a modification so it will work. :)

    Regards.

Post up some picks if you are doing a custom mod, that could be interesting.
