    Hi

Has anyone else experienced headphone and speaker volume issues with their Asus G51J?

My volume is set to 100 and it just isn't loud. In fact - it's so quiet that if I have the TV on, I struggle to hear the game sounds through my headphones. It also isn't the game.

It seems to have quietened down since I uninstalled the Creative software.

Any tips on how I could raise the volume?

    Thanks.

I think you answered your own question. Install the Creative software. Idk about the G51j, but on my current rig the RealTek HD Audio Manager utility has a option to increase the volume. Your G51j's Creative software utility should resolve this problem, in my opinion.

also, check the headphone jack properly and the cables of your headphone, may be damaged or loose internally. i know this sounds silly but sometimes, these are the causes.

    Good Luck!

My G51J plays through the speakers very quietly - lowest volume of any laptop I've ever had, even a MacBook Air which had only one tiny and tinny speaker - but the volume through the headphone jack is absolutely normal. I deleted the Creative stuff some time back, it made no difference.

"Lunch space shuttles into space." :p

So far I've had 8 laptops, 3 of which I still have (2x ASUS + Toshiba).

I agree. Some added volume is desperately needed. Its not just your laptop.

I don't know but i find the speakers pretty loud even when my tv is on. Were pretty low on arrival but after re-installing the creative software after i got the 207.t10 bios and enable the eax feature and cmss-3d feature and enabling the loudness equalization feature in the speaker properties of windows my game sounds are pretty loud, i mean it doesn't compete with external speakers but pretty decent for a laptop through my experience.

You can't be too handsome, too rich, or have too many computers! I'm terminal FAIL on the first two, so...

Seriously, my home is in FL but I have a summer camp in Maine and a motorhome to go between them so the machines are spread around. Some are used for other stuff, like my Mac Mini which is a dedicated media center, and some are semi-retired, like the Gateway which lives in the guest bedroom available for, you guessed it, guests, and so forth; 3 or 4 are for sale. Hobby or fetish, I'm not quite sure!

Right-click on the sound volume in your system tray, and select "Playback devices"...highlight "Speakers" and select "Properties"...under "Enhancements", make sure "Loudness Equalization" is checked...that will boost your volume by quite a bit....it really does help.

The purpose of this post is to help those arriving from search engines. I feel it is worth pointing this out here as it solved the problem I have been having with the volume for my g51j. The sound is far from overwhelming but is good for a laptop.

Windows 7 on this machine has independant volume settings for different programs, Winamp, WMP, etc (these settings are not the same as the in program volume setting in most cases) While this feature can be useful it eluded me for quite a while. You have to open the "Volume Mixer", right click on volume in systray.

If you haven't done this before this should give you about 3x the volume on affected programs.
