    Hello,

I have a G51J - 3D laptop but I have one question to those that own this laptop:

Is it right that my GPU can get to 100-110 Celsius in a mere 10 minutes when there is a benchmark on such as Furmark?

I don't think that can be quite healthy, I can't even play games maxed out or normally because my whole system starts to lag once the card reaches 108-110 Celsius.. I have also done some investigation and people referred to this being a "limit" built in the BIOS. (Throttling - PROCHOT)

I know this problems exists therefore I also have a question what to do? Because this laptop currently peforms as good as a 600 euro laptop because of these problems...

    Thank you in advance

Repaste the GPU, and get a laptop cooler. Search for copper mods, or Forge mod extreme (G51vx-FMX) for some ideas.

try blowing canned air through your vents before repaste, it lowered my laptop from 105 to 77C using furmark

That is likely a different problem - you are probably throttling from thermals not from power consumption. Make sure your fan vent area is clean of dust, take off the bottom cover and make sure there isn't dust in the fan. If that's all good, think about repasting.

Sounds like good idea's, I will try to take out the dust first. (Have had the laptop for a year)

However, is it not smarter to send it back to ASUS for them to do it? There is still warranty on it and I would not like to lose that.

All you would need to do is take off the bottom access panel and blow some compressed air onto the fan and vent area, there is no need to void your warranty. Hold the fan in place by holding one of the fins with your finger so that it doesn't spin like crazy with the compressed air.
