First Post.
I updated my ASUS G51Jx to the G51J version of BIOS. The Display does not work now.
I have looked at the bricked forum and the recovery forum for ASUS and read the the V60j recovery thread, but have made no progress.
I have downloaded the AFLASH2.exe from Asus.com as well as the version(G51Jx)203 (first version) and (G51Jx)208 (latest version) and placed them on a USB (Should it be bootable?). The fail update was done with original file names with the same USB stick(G51J - 208) with no problems except my disregard of the version warning that flashed up and the BSOD afterward. Durr.
Currently:
BSOD - Black Screen of Death.
Indicator lights come on.
Harddrive blinks up.
CD Drive spins.
USB Indicator flashes with usage of the key combination CTRL + Home at power on.
Idles out with BSOD.
My USB stick was working well enough previously to update to the wrong version, I haven't changed anything on it except adding the correct BIOS file and AFLASH2.exe - which I now have had numerous Blind attempts to cause to work with no success.
I've called the ASUS phone support and got an ~$87 RMA fee including return shipping. The Phone Tech suggested F2 + Power for bios Reset - it didnt work.
I've currently pulled the HDrive and am going to attempt version 203 downgrade, if I have to press buttons I'll be aware of those that I press.
Any assistance is appreciated.
Thanks

Still no progress, i let the USB LED blink for about 30 minutes, computer activity rested at idle after ~3minutes. I stabbed blindly in the dark with a disjointed combination of keys including Enter, F4, F2, Esc, and Cursor keys in similar combination of 99 lives in Contra, I have yet to burn the .exe to a CD, but i do have blank disks, i'll have find a burner and software to do so.
Any recommendations are appreciated, including links.
Next step will be a guaranteed RMA fix by Asus according to the voice on the phone from Asus, even said i could remove my HDrive and send an empty box, but ive never had to RMA a box before and wish i could jumper reset like desktops. -

He DoomStyl,
"Bad" firmware updates are rather convoluted and daunting to remedy, especially in your case where you have no video feed. If it goes to Asus' service facility, I imagine they'll default to replacing the motherboard and ship the system back. The board with the bad flash might go somewhere else to have the firmware worked on.
That said, sending it out for RMA service might be the avenue you have to take. -
Youre probably right about them R&Ring the mb, I figure that is the best option - I am a capable computer dude, but not having a desktop right next to me and having to work off of computers with severely restricted access arent prime conditions for repairing a bad flash with no display.
Thanks for the help, theres a lot of good info on this site. -

You're welcome! Best of luck with the RMA process. It's never exactly ideal, but perhaps you can ask them to update the BIOS while it's at the service facility.

If you are out of warranty some repair shops can remove the bios chip and either program a replacement or the original with a file you provide. That way the motherboard can be saved.
