I'd say GDDR5 is definitely here!
Anyhow, for those interested in nVidia's GTX 360M, the Asus G51Jx is now available for pre-sales at the following link:
Asus G51Jx-A1 15.6" FHD LED/Core i7 720QM/NV GTS 360M 1GB GDDR5/6G DDR3/500G/W7HP64
...... fully customizable, and not a bad price, at that!
ENJOY!

A thing of beauty, but I'm guessing the GTX 360M is a rebranded 260 or something like it. Fermi isn't going to be out even in desktops for a little while yet.
Can someone say for sure? -

All I've seen is that the "leaked" fermi benches are fake.

The 360, as has been speculated, is the same chip as the 260 just with GDDR5 instead of GDDR3. Another thing noted by eIement is that its also changed its bit rate from 256 back down to 128
-
I'd guess GTS 260M rebadge (which uses GDDR5 w/128-bit bus) or GTX 260M die shrink (old G92 'tech).
-
link already appears to be be down. Did we confirm the 128 bit bus...or is that speculation?

Did they jump the gun on that one?
Can anyone quote the specs that they had listed. I know that XOTIC had it posted up today too....also...did anyone note the asking price? -
-
It is sill as of yet, unconfirmed. I doubt it'll be confirmed til Gentech/Xoticpc get their first units in stock.

well pricewise, its 50 bucks cheaper than the G51J from newegg.com where I bought mine at.
-
Who wants to bet it'll have BSOD?
-
From my diagnosis adding a x to G51J should fix any BSOD issues. -
Anyone get a look at the lid design?New or same old thing?

1. Same lid design, I seen it on Gentech. The price is $1449.99 and offer a 3% discount for select payment methods.
2. As far as I read into the linked post, -=$tR|k3r=- is right on. The only difference between the lappys is the video card, and the upgrade is the 360m. Most people have been saying it is GTS 360m but gentech listed it as GTX 360m, but this is not necessarily official. Now there will probably almost definitely be a software change for the BIOS, I would assume.
3. On the BSOD, I would actually bet it would be solved in this release since there would be no point to release it if not. Basically Asus would not be foolish enough to repeat this same mistake twice, this is why they always keep that magic letter 'X' in their pocket, for crisis' like this, as Cheesman pointed out. Remember, we are not talking about Dell or HP. Asus actually designs and builds their own laptops and, in my opinion, is far more dependable than our more known pc companies, who don't even build their own laptops. Now, the 360m is supposed to be the solution to the problem. We know it is not the PM55 chipset and i7 combo as it works with everything else, but this is the only one to my knowledge that has the 260m on it. Thus the 360m is probably a rebrand of the 260m, but necessary changes to fix it (to run more smoothly with i7 and pm55) was the upgrade to gddr5 at 128 as opposed to running the gddr3 on a 256 bit bus, (I'm not confirming 128 bit, just rationalizing that there is no way they could upgrade from ddr3 to gddr5 and keep 256 bit without it affecting the pricetag).
4. And finally Asus is supposed to be selling these starting January 9th or 10th (Not official, just the word, which makes sense as I had a conversation with someone at gentech and they said they were expecting them by mid january. We'll know more Jan. 1st and a whole lot more after CES on january 7-10.
Please let me know if you feel I am inaccurate in any way, as some of this is just educated speculation. -
-
Also, figers crossed for a decent drawing on the back this time. Their previous symmetrical designs were way better than that hidious scratched-eletric bolt drawing they use now.
One of dell's previous xps designs would also be great ^^ -
Some more new models:
G51JX-SZ041V (GTS360M GDDR5)
G60JX-JX032V (GTS360M GDDR5) -
-
The GTX 360M is probably a 40nm part, so it will run cooler than the GTX 260M. This might solve the laptop's heat issues.
-
Has anyone confirmed the specs on the GTX 360m?

Starting price for the Asus G51JX-A1 is the same as the current Asus G51J-A1. It will start at $1,449.00. We'll have this model up on our website again after the first of the year -

Well guys, I saw the post alleging misconduct or 'Questionable Practices'. My feeling on this is it was simply a mistake. GenTechPc is an honest business, and a great choice as a notebook reseller, so I do not believe the premature listing was anything more than a mistake. It makes no sense, serves no purpose, or gives no advantage, for a reseller to KNOWINGLY violate an NDA.
Xotic is also a great reseller..... but I find it unsettling, when one reseller, publicly (even in email) alleges impropriety against another, without knowing all the facts. To me, THIS would be 'Questionable Practice', and poor judgment as well..... seems friendly communication between the two would be a more viable solution.
Just my opinion folks.....
-
I agree fullheartedly -
I really hope they update the G51Vx-X3a with the new hardware. I love the higher res screen of that opposed to the G60, but the G51j's are just out of my price range so the X3a's are a perfect fit for me.
-
I'm betting the X3A will get an X4A iteration with an Arrandale Dual Core.
-
if this new card is cooler hopefully we can purchase these and replace our hot cards.

Thanks for taking down my post, I didn't read the confidentiality notice. I also intended in no way to have it degrade gentechpc as they are a great company along with xoticpc as they both have shown that they help as much as they can. They have both gone out of their way to provide me as much information as possible, and have proven to have a far greater knowledge of the situation with the g51jx and its 3d counterpart than the actual Asus sales rep, though she did try to give me as much as she could find out, though what she knew proved to be less specific as well as less accurate. I was just trying to show why they took it down and I have no doubt in my mind that it was a mistake, which as humans we are all prone to make, as can be seen in my neglect of the confidentiality notice. On a second note, xoticpc was not trying to badmouth gentechpc, just trying to explain why they had to take it down.
Having said that, I can't wait for the G51Jx-3D! -

@sgtarky
I'm sure after it releases, they will accept RMA's to swap the card for you since that is what is apparently causing the BSOD's. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
-
Yeah, I'm also interested if we will be able to swap in our G51J's for this newer model, as I finally experienced the BSOD while playing BF2 and Indigo Prophecy this past weekend. If this gpu update fixes it, and they allow us to replace them, that'd be awesome....
-
TheErrorDownThere Notebook Enthusiast
@TLgretzky
I'm sure they will swap them out if this does fix the BSOD. Since they have the 2 year warranty, I can almost guarantee they will just swap them out, unless of course they come up with some bios fix or firmware update on the card.
Some have been skeptical citing a business practice as a reason why they would just ignore it saying they would not take a loss to fix the notebooks (not in this forum, just others I have seen). To this I propose which is a greater cost, replacing the video cards in every g51j-a1 they've sold and restoring their credibility with those customers and everyone they have come in contact with over this issue or saying to the customer its your problem cuz we are not going to support it anymore? The latter is not Asus' style, hence is the reason they include that incredible warranty with all there computers, they stand behind their product 100% and care about the face and reputation of the company for long term gain more than they care about the recent quarterly statement.
So rest assured, though you'll need to allow patience to endure, Asus will take care of all these problems. -

It's all good, and good can come amidst controversy! Xotic, shake hands with GenTech, step to your corners, and may the great competition continue!
Let's get ready to RUMBLE!
-
I just wish it came with a different lid design. Why cant' ASUS come out with a single solid color (preferably Black and not glossy) and I could live without the flashing lights on the side.
Just my 2 cents.
Everything else looks great. -
Thing is, the G51J picture might have been used since they don't have an actual picture of the G51JX
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
I think their mentality is this..... When you are out-and-about in your fav WiFi hotspot, if it's flashy, it will attract more attention to the product. If it's a fingerprint magnet, most users feel irresistably compelled to wipe it down..... ergo, the product always makes it's best presentation. Have you ever noticed, as much as we complain, the manufacturers still keep making us fingerprint magnets?
Now how is that for observation? (Or rather, overthinking the topic!)
LOL!
-
I know this is a "gaming" laptop but do I wan't a laptop that screams look at me.
Not really.
Give me power and performance over flashy any day.
I know some owners really like the designs but not all of us are fans of it.
I guess it's a love or hate thing with the lid design, it's not so bad that It would be a deciding factor but I think they could do a better job. -
Ugh. If it's stable, and they've addressed the USB issues...
-
If they ever come up with a plain design, I'll probably pick one up. That, and if the BSOD/heat issues are fixed.Worse comes to worse, I'll skin it.
-
The GTS 360M is still a gimped GPU, even if it performs on par with the 260M GTX in most cases. The real refresh will probably be the 360M GTX with a 256 bit bus + GDDR5 (if we get lucky enough). Hopefully if that does happen, Clevo and AW will add them to their systems. Personally I'd rather hold out for a 5800 series upgrade if I were buying a new system. -
WTB a new widely available MXM-II card =(
-
This isn't particularly exciting, given that the GTX280m is already a faster GPU than this, and GDDR5 on a 128bit bus isn't any faster than GDDR3 on 256bit.
Big bag of nothin'. Just the result on Nvidia EOL'ing the GTX260m - so ASUS needs a new SKU.
Also, the specs on the 5870 mobile part make it appear to be the one to beat. And if my desktop 5870's incredibly low idle temps are anything to go by, it'll be a great GPU in the heat/power stakes. -
How man cores do the 360 parts have?
In terms of performance I'd theoretically be interested in that ATi part, but I'm not since ATi doesn't actually support their mobile GPUs. It could be 50x faster and I wouldn't want it. (Was hoping that was going to change with the release of 7, but...nope.)
