    Hi,

I have a Asus G51VX that is overheating, I have tried numerous ways to keep it from overheating with no luck.

Earlier today I applied new thermal paste to both the CPU and GPU and used Articlean to clean it off. After I was done, I installed an SSD and fired it up and installed Windows 7 Pro, while, running Windows 7 Pro Updates the computer overheated and shut down without rebooting.

I had installed CPUID HWMonitor during this time and it stated the GPU was running between 85C - 100C under "idle" just installing updates, the CPU was running between 78C - 88C, both were overheating at the same time. I checked the fan, and, it seemed to be working correctly, however, it wasn't cooling the system down any and I applied new Artic Silver 5 thermal paste to both the GPU & CPU just a bit ago.

Any help on why the PC would still be overheating would be VERY welcome and appreciated.

    Thank you.

It's possible the heatpipes have become damaged, you may want to replace the heatsink.

give it a few days to settle and cure. watch your temps. if they are higher than they were before, you'll need to repaste again. you should also clean the fan and exhaust out with a can of compressed air. do it with the computer off. some folks say to hold the fan still while you do it, but i never do. i just don't spin it up all the way, it can really damage the bearings.

you'll know you have your repaste right, when the temps stay low. AS takes a day or so to cure up, so temps could be higher the first day or so, but they should still be below 90C or so.
