when i set the DPI to 150% everything looks bigger as it should however the 'in program' text in programs like after effects cs5, norton IS and Chrome looks very small.

note that the task bar in after effects looks like the normal 150% setting however all the other text looks small. (see attachments)

i have the latest driver for geforce gts 360m installed
its on the recommended resolution full HD
    i updated the BIOS
clear text is on and tuned.

    any one has a fix?
    thanks

DPI just can make a difference in Windows menu and tool bar, not for the software itself.

then why is it different on my desktop computer, i have no such issues and its the same windows 7 64bit. although my desktop has geforce 9800 gtx+.
so i think the issue here is the driver for my geforce gts 360m. i have the latest installed. or maybe its because of the HD display, but im no computer expert, i dont know. i wish i did tho.
i cant understand why this problem exist. its really frustrating to have on such a good laptop.

Lomas1 The only way I know to deal with this is to change from full hd to a different resolution. First change the DPI back to 100 %
    Then go to
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution
and change it to 1680 x 1050 or some lower setting.
I had to by new glasses when I went to a full HD laptop (1920 x 1080) LOL.

LOL new glasses, seems i would need to get a pair as well!
but thanks. that seemed to do the trick. i set it at 1280x 720 so i would not get those black bars. everything seems to look ok. not as crisp as full HD but its not as annoying.

also, will this affect my video play back? if i want to watch a bluray will i have to change it back to full 1080?

No kidding I've got a appointment with a eye doctor on Friday. I don't know why the screen res on this notebook would be so high in the first place. I mean we are getting into pixel's we can't even see. to even see bluray don't you need a 50" tv to start with. That's what Robert Heron at HD nation was saying on one of his shows. I was going to use this as a laptop but I think I'll use it as my main workstation later on and connect it up to a monitor with a more realistic res.

Ya you would have to switch it back if you want to watch it in it's full HD glory on the laptop.

SA , I knew there had to be a way, you guys are testing me! :) once you set it to that resolution, go to programs, catalyst control center- ATI help- from this browser window go to notebook panel properties- setting image scaling
This will bring up the way to get rid of the bars (scale image to full panel size)
MY bad this only applies to ATI cards, but Nvidia must have a similar option, I would open up the Nvidia utility and search for Scale to fit in the help files.
Lomas1, SA is correct, go back to 1920 x 1080 to play movies.
I am staying with full HD, pocket protector and the glasses, it fits my nerd image.
Good luck to all with your systems!!

    Thanks JOSEA,

    cheers to you mate,

Ya nvidia has the same option under the nivdia control panel. It's easyer to find, right under change resolution, is change falt panel scaling.

But on ati panel I couldn't find it tell I really looked around and followed your directions.

Thanks for taking the time to show us that, your the man!. as far as eye glass go, I can't see a thing on a computer screen with out them. Been having a lot of eye strain the last week or so. before and after I got this new notebook, I mean lab-top. I keep calling it a notebook but there is nothing notebook like about it. so it really is a classic lab-top..

Thanks again, that will fix the problem for now.

Ohh I guess I should of pointed out that I have a ASUS G73JH-A1 but it has the same problem. it's got an ATI hd 5870 @ 1920x1080
