Apparently I am not the only having this issue.

Running Win7 and the drive hl-dt-st dvdram gsa-t50n simply refuses to write any DVD's with any program.

It burns CD-R's without a problem. It copies DVD's as well. But creating a new DVD will not work.

Firmware is RR07. I saw a lot of topics on various forums with a lot of people having this issue, but I couldn't find any solutions. Has anyone figured it out?

Thanks. I tried it already and ran some tests. The problem still exists. Nero won't burn a DVD.

I tried ImgBurn. It returned Write Error again. Retried 18 times. On the 19 time...it started burning. But it only wrote at 2.7-3.0x speed. I have also noticed that CD-R can't get faster than 24x. Maybe I have a hardware issue.

I should probably look for a replacement burner - what is a good brand? Should I go with Toshiba?

Have you tried cleaning the lens with a lens cleaner or compressed air?
