I was doing a cosmetic mod yesterday on a customers xbox and got the idea to use sickmods.net led boards in my laptop to light up the rear vents. So today i made the led arrays and went to work just seeing if it's possible.
I used 5 0603 leds per board. To use 5v the math calls for a 18ohm 1/2 watt resistor but i used a 15ohm to test. I used kapton tape to secure the led arrays right behind the heatsinks.
Here are some pics.

I'll probably end up tapping the 5v from the fan and running a switch to the kensington lock port. It doesn't look like the keyboard light port would be a good source for power since it doesn't actually stop supplying power.
I reassembled the laptop to test to see if the led arrays will stay put or if i have to use something a little more permanent, plus i need to get the right resistor. I'll post a few finished pics when i'm done
Let me know if you guys like this mod.

Finally worked in the time to finish it, what a pain... took me a little over 2 hours.
I tapped the left fan's 5v and ground
Ran 2 sets of wires to test (complete mess)
Mounted my modified switch with hot glue several times till i got the right height.
Then i trimmed up my wires and went crazy with the kapton tape.
It all fit perfect.

I had to modify where the switch fits, i ended up cutting out a small piece of metal to get the switch to clear and get the clearance for the wires.
I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, if anyone has any questions feel free to contact me.
