Hi, i am currently looking at an Asus G53SW-XN1 laptop from newegg. the price is very nice for the laptop and ive heard very good performances from this website and also from youtube videos. but when i looked at the feedback section of the newegg website page, it seems that this particular laptop has alot of problems with the power button not working, something about having a bad pin inside it that can break easily... can anyone here that actually owns this laptop confirm if you guys have exprienced this or if the power button seems flimsy to you? i really dont want to have to buy a faulty laptop since i have been searching for a very good laptop for the past month and a half now.

(If you guys have any suggestions for other gaming laptops with very nice cooling and video cards around the price of $1300, pls let me know. Thx)

The G53JW-A1 here has had no problems with the on/off button, but then again I don't go around slamming it. :) The hot model choice here is newegg's G73SW-XN2 for $1250

Are you confirming that the XN1 does have the power on/off button problem? and the XN2 is unfortunetly too big for me, i am just looking for a 15.6"in laptop since i do plan on carrying it around. Do you know by any chance if they have fixed this problem or if they are doing anything about it?

Basically this problem can happen, but most ppl that have gotten their's replaced works 100% after that. It seems you will know right away, so if it happens, just exchange it. If the replacement doesn't have it, it most likely will not develop the problem for the rest of the time you own it.

At least, in the G53SW lounge, that's how it's been going for them.

Thank you, I got really scared because for some reason i was thinking that even if i get a replacement for the laptop it might develop again because i was seeing such a high amount of people with the problem and it was happening to them as soon as they got their laptop from newegg, some people even said that it was also happening to the G53SW-A1 and not just the XN1.

I also started looking at a Sager NP1830 since it does have two fans that cools the GPU and the CPU, it comes with a GTX 560M nvidia graphics card, 4GB more ram. So if it does turn out that the Asus laptop i get has the defective power button, and even after i exchange the laptop for another Asus, i may just jump to the sager.

I like my back lit keyboard and my silent cooling system after all, but only to a certain extent... >.>

Oh yeah, fair enough, I would too after reading those reviews(which I have). But I was following the threads from when ppl were first ordering the XN1 from the day it was released. And it seems it all happened early, or not at all. What is funny though, it mainly seems to be happening on newegg units, I haven't seen any post here with that problem that came from a different place.

Unfortunately, newegg is the best price, so it's worth the risk. They also have a decent return policy, the off chance you do get a bad one, make sure to ask for a "360 replacement", I think thats what someone said to say and they will ship you a replacement overnight/ maybe it was just cross ship. But better than waiting until they receive it then sending you a replacement.

Good luck with buying it, and like you said, having a nice silent lappy is nice, but you can only go so far to get one. Sagers can be quite loud, but people say they're reliable none the less. I certainly understand the hardship of picking the right gaming lappy, heck, I even just gave up for 6-8months since I was so tired of not being able to get a functioning gaming laptop and/or not really being able to find what I wanted in the price range I could afford.

I have a Newegg NX1 and have never had a power button issue.

Interesting note that some of you may know but others may not:

I spoke with one of the authorized Asus repair shops (the one in Georgia) and they guy said to be sure to register the laptop with Asus (either by mail or internet) no later than 30 days after purchase. He said this will activate a one year drop policy in the warranty. Good to know. No other manufacturer offers that free for a whole year.
