Asus G53JW Setting Up Help

I ordered an Asus G53JW laptop from xoticpc with some upgrades (RAM, Blu-Ray) and was wondering what to do when my laptop reaches me.

I don't know what to update/install/uninstall. I plan on first downloading Microsoft Security Essentials for protection but I don't know if they're is anything I have to do before/after that.
Also what are BIOS/Drivers? Do I upgrade them? Where do I do it from.

Sorry if there is a thread explaining this but I don't see one and don't want to mess up a new $1,500 laptop.

I looked at this and while it is really helpful on what to delete it does not answer my other questions... Thanks though for puttin in the effort to link something.

 

You can find all the latest drivers and BIOS at ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

If you don't know what BIOS is, look on wikipedia.
