Hey all, I come to you with a bit of a conundrum.

Long story short - my boyfriend's dog jumped on the power cable for my laptop while it was plugged in and managed to snap the pin in the DC power jack off. SO needless to say it is currently undergoing repair.

The repair place is having a difficult time finding a replacement DC Jack for my laptop (Asus G53SW-BST6) to order. I looked it up by that specific model of laptop and it looks as though it is an obsolete DC power jack BUT when I search for DC power jacks just for that series of laptop (the G53SW series) it is showing that it uses a different jack.

According to what I've found the specific model of laptop uses a 3p, 2.5 DIP (which I assume means the pin is 3mm and the actual jack is 2.5mm) but according to places that sell the jack for the series instead of by the individual laptop they use a 2.5p, 2.5 DIP.

SO my question becomes - does anyone know which is correct? I am really hoping the entire series is the same, because if it is significantly easier to find the part, but I don't want to order the part and then find out it's the other one and have to turn around and order that instead.

Any advice would be appreciated. :) Thanks ahead of time!

It should be the same for the G53/G73 series if i'm not mistaken, once you have the right one, all it takes is to remove the jack and solder the new one if the motherboard wasn't broken during the incident. I doubt the mobo got damaged.

The motherboard is perfectly fine, it was/is completely usable it just doesn't charge anymore. According to my boyfriend (who is playing middleman at the moment, as the repair is in his name because he's paying for it) the person doing the repair said the original module is soldered directly onto the motherboard so they can't just replace it?

I really don't know enough about hardware to argue, but I'm confused as to why they would sell the individual parts if you can't just replace those parts.

    Thank you, by the way!

Well, it isn't all that easy to de-solder the old jack and solder a new one, but i have a feeling the store is trying to get you to pay for bigger repairs than what needs to be done, you could ask elsewhere.

Oh definitely not, I mean I certainly wouldn't attempt it myself, but just from stuff I've gathered during my research process of all this, it didn't seem like an impossible task.

Unfortunately I live in a small city so my options are somewhat limited in terms of where to go, but if it comes down to it I will mention possibly shopping around to my boyfriend. He's paying for the repairs so it's ultimately his decision, but I'd like to save him money if at all possible as it's really not his fault (now if the dog was able to pay for repairs...)

Thanks so much for the quick responses, they helped a lot!

Almost forgot, if you registered for the ADP warranty and it hasn't been a year yet, this definitely qualifies.
