I spoke with a rep at ASUS today and he told me that the G53SW should be available at the end of the month or first of April. He said that Best Buy will probably have them first.

I acutally saw a G73SW-BST6 at Best Buy today for $1,299 and was tempted to pull the trigger but I really thinkg a 17" laptop is too big and no 1080p.

Does anyone else have any additional information on the release of the G53SW?

I've narrowed down my choices to the Sager 8130 and Asus G53SW. The one thing that Asus has that the Sager doesn't have is the backlit keyboard. It sounds like a small thing but now that I have a backlit kb on my current laptop I use it all the time and I think I would be reminded that I should have gone with a laptop that had it everytime I used the Sager in dark situations.

Any info on the G53SW is much appreciated.

    Thanks

The person that I spoke with at ASUS today had pricing of about $1,200 USD. He said the price included a 1080p screen and 6gb of ram. The G73SW I saw at Best Buy today had 8gb of ram but only 1600x900 display.

I expect the price to be 1350$~, since that's the average across some resellers for the JW model. I haven't seen the SW version of the G73's increase the prices at all.

G53 in general is a spectacular laptop, but waiting 2.5 weeks+ for it may be too long for some (that's where the 8130 comes in).

I'm also going to miss the backlit keyboard, but the wait game for any piece of technology pushes me to the brink of insanity.

I hear you on the insanity part. From what I've been told, if I ordered an 8130 today I probably wouldn't get it until the middle or end of April anyway. So I guess I might as well wait to see if the G53SW comes out before then.

If I was looking for a 17" laptop that would be a great deal. I just don't want to lug a 17" laptop around my house let alone outside of my house.

A 15.6" laptop is perfect for my needs. I hope the guys at Asus was right with the end of the month release on the G53.

The one in the review still has the 768p screen.
If you dont have a gaming laptop and want one then yes, g53sw is a choice to consider, but if you already have the JW it doesn't really make sense to upgrade to SW.

Not only is that one missing the vents on the back (WTH?), it doesn't have the Seagate XT hybrid drives. So basically you can get the exact same one, with "afterburner" vents and 2 hybrid hard drives, for $100 more at XoticPC or a similar place.

Yeah, right now it looks like you'd be able to acquire both in 3 weeks~

8130's are moving and resellers have mentioned that it's a 2-3 week if you order now, however in 2-3 weeks, the G53SW will be out for sale IF the start of April is still scheduled to release around that time ;)

can't wait! I have been drooling over the g53jw since its release but decided to hold off until the SW. Then the whole sandy bridge fiasco was like a dagger to the heart, and as voodoo said, I am on the brink of insanity waiting for this baby to be released!!

Come soon Asus G53SW, save me from my defective geforce 8600m GT woes!!

But this G53SW will be stocked with the 460m isn't it?

Any idea when it will have the GTX560m instead?
    Most of all, a 560m with 1.5GB GDDR5 XD

It's a ploy, simple as that.

They pretend it's in stock/coming real soon, charge your credit card, and make excuses of delays when you inquire.

    That's why they don't have a pre-order icon on their page ;)

If they had that icon, then users would be more prone to cross compare prices, however if some sites are showing "pre-order" and some have "add to cart" and the buyer has no history with either company, the buyer will pick the site with "add to cart" because they will be tricked into believing the company has stock.

It's a "cheap" deceitful business tactic that takes business away from the honest sellers that actually list "pre-order" on their websites.

That is just cruel! Getting my hope up like that.

I've got a Sager 8130 on order but may change my order if the G53SW comes out soon. I like the rubberized finish and also like the backlit keyboard on Asus but we'll see what the price is like for the same config as the Sager.

    Unfortunately it's trash:

I like how they try to word 1366 x 768 as being amazing lol...

Trust me, I've had a 1366 laptop before and I can assure you guys that you will hate it, if coming from a higher resolution.

    --

Best to buy it off a reseller, guys, since they'll be offering 1080p.

Also listed at Xotic PC. Is it just me or does this seem very pricey?

ASUS G53SW-A1 - XOTIC PC - Republic of Gamers Laptop

The Sager NP8130 with a Matte screen and the same specs is much less expensive and the only thing the Asus has that Sager doesn't is the rubberized finish and backlit keyboard. Of course the Sager doesn't look like a stealth fighter either.

Yup. The NP8130 is the best bang for buck atm.

I thought for sure the G53SW would of floated around 1350$.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic laptop that I absolutely adore, however when potential customers are choosing a gaming laptop in that higher bracket price, there's much more competition (M17X-R3/GT680/NP8170/NP8150).

Since there's more competition in that bracket, unless Asus trims down the price by 100$+, I don't think it will sell as well as it should. The reason it should be cheaper than the competition is because you cannot upgrade the video card on the Asus, however you can on the AW/Sager ...MSI I'm not sure, which is an important selling point for many.

Those prices aren't reflecting MSRP. It's pre-order high-demand hype pricing, and vendors who do that should be avoided. IIRC it's suppose to be $1399. I'll check with Asus to be sure.

for an extra 100$ you get a G73Sw with same specs from xoticpc.

or have a G73Sw with bluray player with no backpack or gaming mouse from bestbuy,

or an M17x R3 from Alienware

or for the same price, a G73Sw in amazon with no backpack and mouse.

This is true, but, for me at least, the 15 inch model will help with portability. I will be lugging my notebook to and from work every day.

Okay, this thread is a little old, but I thought I would throw some info in anyway. Not only does the LT in that pic not have vents, which I have no clue how that's possible, the LT does not feature Bluetooth. That isn't really a big deal, but it also features one single 1TB HDD that's 7200 RPM. Does that even exist?? If you go to Xotic, you can get free shipping and no tax, which means you are spending a little over $100 extra with Xotic BUT you're also getting a backpack and a mouse with Xotic. Assuming that HDD DOES in fact exist, which I've never seen, I still think going with Xotic is the better plan.

Could someone that has purchased a G53SW be so kind to measure the outside dimensions of the box it came in (the black and red ASUS one) and post here or PM me.

    Cheers in advance.
