Greetings all. I've recently been shopping for upgrades for my old G60JX and came across a lot of i7-820QM Q1TN ES's on eBay for great prices. So I bought one and it's on its way here, and only THEN did I realize that ES meant engineering sample and all the inherent issues with that.

My question is, since I've already bought the CPU, has anyone managed to get the i7-820QM Q1TN ES to work on a G60JX? I know it's not the production model now, but I was curious if this would work with the laptop anyway.

I know standard it-820QMs work with the G60JX, and the pin-out, model name, socket, etc. are all pretty much identical.

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: This is the Best Buy model G60JX (G60JX-RBBX05 using 208 Bios)

It should work, the engineering samples are sometimes just a little bit different, such as clock speeds and what not. You can't really blow up the computer by putting it in, so just swap out the CPU and try it out. Worst that happens is that it doesn't boot and you have to put the 430m back in.

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping for.

If it doesn't work, I'll just use the 430M whilst I search for an OEM 720QM or something. In the meantime, if anyone else has any experience with this setup let me know. I'll be sure to post my results once I get the CPU installed and tested.

Alright, I got the the CPU today (super fast shipping), got everything mounted and pasted, and...no boot. Just a black screen. Tried remounting and everything, same effect.

So the i7-820QM Q1TN ES is NOT supported by the Best Buy G60JX (G60JX-RBBX05 using 208 Bios).

I contacted the seller and they'll let me return the CPU for a full refund, which is fantastic. Now I'm off to find an OEM 720QM.
