Hi there folks, I been doing some research on my laptop and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what there version of there bios is and if they have a copy they could post it for me, I want to compare the 2 bios to see what could be causing my gtx 260m to perform worse then my 9800m gs in my g50vt.
For example when I play any source engine game (CSS,TF2,DOD:S,etc) my 9800m gs is spanking my gtx 260m like there is no tomorrow, GTX 260m varies from 60fps - 170fps, the 9800m tho will never dip below 150fps and can go nearly as high as 350fps. Now thats css and we move on to borderlands, the gtx 260m will sit around 20-60fps but mostly around 25-35fps and on the 9800m its constantly at 60fps and never dips below 55fps, same exact settings same model ram, same cpu, same resolution, same everything essentially.
Now we move to something a little bit more demanding COD Black Ops, the 9800m will sit at max settings 2x AA 16x AS and will twinkle around 50-75 fps, the gtx 260m on the other hand absolute disappointment 25-35fps. Now as for like clock speeds of the cards i have tried multiple clock speeds on the gpu's the 9800m stock and the 260m stock and still the same result and even going all out on the 9800m 600/1500/950 and the 260m at 600/1500/950 and it still does not compare to the 9800m so im starting to think there is a chance that the bios is the problem, because no matter what every time i install a new driver on the 260m i have to use that goofy tool to make the powermizer work correctly to down clock the card so it doesn't burn up.
So maybe its just a flaw of the g60vx or maybe its cause the bios is just messed up, anyways i can tell i went nutz on this and will have to slap a few periods in here and there. So please if you were a hardcore asus g51vx to g72gx series lover and know way to much about em please grace me with your knowledge.

I assume you're running the same settings on both laptops (Same resolution, same graphics detail, same AA, etectera).
Odd. The GTX 260m should be a noticeable boost over the 9800m GS.
I'll include a bunch of vBIOSes that I had lying around. Be warned that some of them are voltage and clock modded, so don't try to flash without looking over the settings. Also, these are from a G51vx-RX05.
(As an aside, next time please put some paragraph breaks in there. A big block of text is... intimidating.)Attached Files:

LoL Yes i know forge, i was kinda just rambling a tid bit on that one. But thank you very much for the assistance since you are the G-series god on this site. I'll take a peak and see the differences on the bios.
Cool you even have the bios' named off as to what they are. -

The names are... random. Like I said, check each one so you know the clocks and voltages. I take no responsibility for any bricking that may occur, etc etc.

lol no its no problem i checked out the original bios' only and it matches mine exactly, only difference is my bios version ends with a .12 and yours is .11 other that when you look through it exact same settings.
The only thing that confuses me is it says the stock clock is 500/1250/799 which sure thats what its suppose to be but on every monitoring program i have for the gpu it shows it being 540/1350/799 so thats kinda fishy. -

Do you have something in the background overclocking your GPU? Maybe nVidia Control Panel is set to overclock it on startup?
-
Its the new nvidia drivers and those don't have the option in the menu to overclock by what i can tell and it was the same way even with like 184.79 drivers, pretty much the only thing i have that overclocks is MSI Afterburner and thats currently set to stock clock speed.

I've thought about redoing the OS and its been since probably last January since its been freshened up, but i haven't found any real issues with my Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Or it could be the fact that the ram I have in gets almost up to 80C all by itself, and its factory ram...... LoL -
Hmmm suddenly after bad talking my laptop and reseating the ram and video card and cpu its actually not doing to bad 200+ fps in CSS, black ops is up to 60-75fps.....
hmmm who knew that saying bad words to a laptop would put it back into shapewell looks like she's fixed now she smokes the g50vt

Now, all you have to do is add copper and holes.
-
Actually just 1 hole
I tried multiple things and the best thing I have found to keep this beast cool is the fake speaker hole with a little cover to catch some dust and GC Gelid Extreme thermal paste and funny thing is I found is this 260m didn't like copper shims it actually got hotter with copper shims.
And yes I have spare backplates out the rear
But with how she sits right now idle CPU:36C-44C GPU:45C-52C load CPU:64C GPU 86C and in FurMark CPU:66C GPU:91C and thats stock bios, stock volts and overclocked cpu at 3.53ghz and the gpu at 580/1450/850 with a real clock of 624/1566/850 since thats what all my hardware monitors show me as the true frequency.
And this could be interesting to most people but the fan I have in the laptop is a factory replacement I bought and yet it runs at much higher speeds then any other fan i have seen in these laptops. The max this baby has pushed the fan was with furmark and it was spinning at 5700rpm, which if i remember correctly is higher then the standard 4500-4600rpm at max speed. Could be a lucky fan. Sounds like a Jet when it pushes that hard and tends to blow papers off my desk...... LoLLast edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -

580/1450/850 was what I used back in the day, and my GPU never got above 86C in anything besides Furmark or OCCT.
As for the mod, good choice, haha. Also had that mod on my G51vx. Single most effective way to cool down your CPU and GPU. -

was wondering if you can help me with the bios and installing. Im a noob somewhat and i would like to get this laptop to run a bit better. the BIOS version i currently have is -ACRSYS - 20090827- and bios date is -08/08/26-.
Also i just updated my gtx 260m to the newest Nvidia drivers 270.61? are those the best for gaming? or is there anything you can recommend? everything else is pretty much stock since im still new to modding and updating things for peak performance. -
