    So here we go.

Last month, my hard drive threw a SMART alarm and said it was on its way out. I called Asus up, and they promptly informed me I was screwed and they would not help because the PC was more than a year old. (It was purchased in Dec. 2009).

So I said screw 'em, bought a new HDD and threw it in there. Today I used the System recovery disc provided with the computer and installed Windows 7 on the system using the provided discs.

When I booted the system up, several of the devices are displaying the following error:
"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

This error is displaying for the following components:
    ITECIR Infrared Receiver (EC)
    Ricoh Memory Stick Controller
    Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controler
    Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller
    USB 2.0 UVC 1.3M WebCam
    Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
    Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

So.. obviously none of these devices are working. Focusing on the network cards first, I reinstalled the drivers for those devices from the disc, AND from the Asus web site, and the error remains.

I have tried the thing on the F8 boot menu that turns off driver signing temporarily and that did get the wired card working briefly (though not the wireless), but that is not a permanent fix.

So, I called Asus again. Their answer was of course, helpful as always. "You can send it to us, but you have to pay for shipping to and from, and for the service." or their best suggestion "You can call Best Buy where you got it and tell them the system restore disc is not working."

Needless to say, I will NEVER touch an Asus product again, but I'd like my laptop to not be totally useless. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would appreciate it greatly.

    Thanks!

I actually tried those, and the one for Home x64 does not work. The installer fails mid-motion. :(

I dug through that thread and found another source for the non-SP1 Win 7 iso and that works but it refuses to activate my OEM key. So at this point, I guess I'm facing a really awkward conversation with Microsoft.
