Hello every body Sorry i am new to this forum if i am making any mistakes i mean posting if some 1 already posted some where about this problem then please notify me to the right dirrection thanks Okie Well i have got Asus G60 vx and specs are
intel core 2 duo t7350 2.0 ghz
nvidia 260 gtx graphics
250 hdd
4 gb ram
Now the problem i am having is my system overheats.... it doesnt heat up in normal use it heats up when i play games like let me show u some pictures..
and then when play in the game like need for speed hot pursuit 2010. then the situation is like this.
i have opened my laptop to repaste it with arctic silver 5 gpu and cpu before that my temperature was high and then it dropes down and also i made some modes like i cut the bottom panel and put chrome strip so that air can flow from that vent too but in games my gpu keeps rising. any suggestions what should i do to make it cooler Infact i have ordered some Copper Shims also i bought an upgraded cpu P8800 its 25 tdp so it ll be the same i guess. i have already got the paste i have opened this system many times to repaste it and all but dont know what i am doing wrong please some 1 tell me what i am doing wrong here Does thermal pads are any good i have bought thermal pad from here which i am currently using under gpu link as follow.

What are your load temps? Have you looked around here in the cooling threads?
-
If you run out of resources cooling it you can try forcing the fan to run at full speed:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/579780-how-force-g73-fans-100-a.html#post7509814
Not sure if it'll work on the G60VX but it should. -
hackness i have cut the blue wire from fan to make it run all the time unlimited from this video my fan is running non stop no stopping anything..
Infact my air is Cold but for some reason my gpu is rising to 101 - 107 c after 5 minutes of game play it drops down to about 60 or below as soon as i shut my game. nvidia 260gtx graphics cant be that slow to handle any game.
alan what u mean by load temps? gpu loading ? thats after 5 minutes of game play my gpu goes up to 101-107 c

Are you sure the heatsinks are making good contact with the GPU die? You might just try reseating the heatsink carefully and making sure nothing is missing contact. Also make sure not to use too much thermal paste! This can also have averse affects.
-
Hi dtood thanks for the response now I am thinking the same thing cause the thermal pad I am using is not very good and also those was 0.5mm now I read somewhere on this forum that it takes0.55m now I have ordered some copper shims 0.6mm to install in this half for side safe I guess and I will repaste it as well for the repaste how mich exactly should I use last time I used to cover all parts of gpu and cpu as well. Just how much should. Use on gpu and cpu thanks
-
0.55mm from 0.5 mm might not make much of a difference... but it's worth a shot. I'm no expert but in my experience:
-Thermal pads should fit snugly so you clearly see the indentation in them of the memory chips they are on. That is, it should make light contact when you are seating the heatsink and then squish in a little when you are tightening the heatsink down. Do not use the pads on the GPU die itself (only the black memory chips).
-Shims that are too big can be hazardous!! If the shims are so thick they prevent the heatsink from making full contact on each part, you will have the same overheating problems! So just be careful!
-Paste should just barely cover the whole of the die. They say to use a pea size amount for a desktop CPU that has the heat covering on it, but for a laptop CPU or GPU you are actually applying the paste straight to the die. This means you really only need a small dot perhaps 2mm by 2mm. One tube of paste is enough for a bunch of retries, so why not try once or twice to see if you get it right?
-They also say to use a credit card or equivalent to smooth it out, but honestly I just gently press the heatsink to the die while wiggling it gently in a circle (not by much). Between this and screwing the heatsink down this should smooth out the paste.
In the end it doesn't matter how you spread the paste as long as:
-You don't make air bubbles (repeatedly lifting and reseating with the same paste can create bubbles)
-You don't let dust get to the paste
-The paste evenly covers the entire die (if it is uneven you need to reapply it, or the heatsink is unevenly seated)
-The paste does not ooze out from the sizes of the die (too much paste, reapply with less).
Other people might have better input but that's my 2c. Good luck! -
Just Solved My problem i played game today for nearly 2 hours for the sake of just to see if my gpu will overheat or not Well Guess wot it says on 57 c while my cpu core 0 on 100% and core 1 on 67 % and My fps was Low too i wonder which cpu should i buy does Q9100 Cpu will work with this laptop ?? That Cpu has PGA478 pin as well but 45 tdw wonder if that cpu will work with this laptop
Or Q9000 Quad core Processor.
On website it says
Processor & Cache Memory Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9000 : 2.0 GHz
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9600/T9550/T9400/ P8800/ P8700/ P8600/ P8400/ P7450/ P7350/ T6600 : 2.8 GHz - 2.2 GHz, -
Whoa, I understand English is not eveyone's language of choice but please use punctuation, and format your sentences before posting. This is a forum, not an IM session.
A quad core will fit and POST but will not boot into any OS. It has been attempted by several people on here. -
Alright Sorry about that. well if Quad core doesnt support this laptop then which cpu should i upgrade in to this laptop which 1 is the best so i start looking for that then.
-
No problem. Have a look at some of these threads:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...vx-rx05-cpu-upgrade-question.html#post7029357
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/550790-g51vx-new-cpu-again.html
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...-upgrades/599169-intel-e8435.html#post7763209
They are older posts but still relevant.
I would try for these CPUs, in rough order from best cost/performance to worst:
E8435 SLGEA
E8335 SLGEB
T9600 SLG9F
X9100 SLGKH
T9800 SLGES
T9900 SLGEE
E8435 SLAQD
T9600 SLB47
SLGxx CPUs will run cooler than SLAxx or SLBxx CPUs because they have a more recent stepping (revision).
E8x35 CPUs have high voltages and can overclock very far using SetFSB.
This guy posted recently and is in a similar situation: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...rades/657217-worth-upgrading-p7350-p8600.html
Hope this helps! -
I too have run into some heat problems with my G60vx. I think the main trouble is (other then the crappy cooling system design) the Nvidia 260M chip.
I was wondering if anyone that owns a G60vx has attempted removing the heat-pipe assembly from the 260M for the purpose of reapplying thermal paste. I don't really see any possible way to do this without resorting to use of a blunt instrument or high explosives (either solution is unacceptable.)
I have a feeling that any thermal paste or other material that was applied on the 260 M has long ago become extra krispy. Temps on this chip have gone as high as 90 Celsius while gaming and that inevitably results in a CTD. -
All you need is a philipshead screwdriver.
Take off the back panel, take off the CPU fan, then take off the GPU fan. Repaste and reassemble, no explosives required. -
Just for reference, my G60vx with Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 reached the following temperatures while playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010 for well over 1 hour:
HWMonitor 1.19 64bit
Hottest session
Core#0: 78C
Core#1: 69C
GPU: 87C
On my last lession max temps where about 2-3C less, due to day vs night and differect city I was playing
The 2 cores have the same temperature while performing light tasks, about 45-47C, while the GPU idles at 60-61C. I have the laptop since March 2010, I have not reapplied thermal paste or done any heat modifications. I am using a cheap acrylic cooler with 3 fans spinning at 5400rpm.
The laptop gets more noisy when playing Skyrim but my only 80 minute session pushed the GPU temp to a max of 89C. -
Hmm, I guess I should have given a better description of the problem on my previous post. Removing the back cover and getting to the CPU and the other chip covered by the same section of the heat pipe assembly is not my problem. Btw there is only one fan in this computer so far as I can see and it can not be removed completely but it can be lifted up and flipped to the left giving access to everything except the (GPU for purpose of removal.)
The GPU has a separate section of heat sink/pipe assembly that is wedged into the case behind the fan exhaust port. I can remove the screws that hold the heat sink portion of the assembly over the GPU but that does not give access to the GPU die for visual examination and and reapplication of thermal media because of the fact of the entire assembly being wedged into the case. I don't see any way to disassemble that GPU heat pipe assembly in any way that would allow easy reassembly of same. Is there an easy way to remove and then reassemble this wedged in section? -

When you lift it up and flip it over, the only thing hanging on to the fan assembly is black tape.
Gently remove that tape from the fan assembly, and you will be able to get at the heatpipe. -
Hof i will show you a picture and that was my problem remove the fan u got 3 screws there and clean it from inside when i did that my temps are normal good to go and on top i repasted and put copper shin in gpu and cpu its much much coller mine idle is now 38c and when playing game hot pursuit 2010 my gpu is 55 to 60 c but my cpu is slowing every thing down i just need a good cpu now to run this all then i think i will keep this another 2 3 years..
what i have use to remove all that dust is alchoal swabs and hair dryer u can buy alcohol swabs 100 for just 2 pounds i think thats cheap here is the ebay link. 100 x IPA Wipes 70% Isopropyl Alcohol Swabs NHS Quality | eBay
dtd which cpu have u got installed in your machine and hows the performance like in games.. does cpu still slow everythings up after upgrading to higher specs.Attached Files:

Heya guys,
Problem solved. I guess I was a bit to scared like a little girl to put any pressure on the GPU heat-pipe assembly. The only thing that was really holding it down after removing the two screws was the old baked thermal media.
What really clued me in besides your help was this: G60vx Disassembly
I don't have a Facebook account so I can't get a copy but if any of you guys do it might be cool if we could get a downloadable or printable copy here on NB Review, dunno what legal hoops there may be to jump through but I'm sure there maybe one or two.
So I reapplied all die surfaces with some AC MX4 after cleaning with one of those ArctiClean kits that Arctic Silver produces (so far as I can tell this is a bit of a bad deal they don't list ingredients but it sure seems like it's just a bottle of Goo gone and a bottle of alcohol.) It does the job though. Anyway temps have improved a bit it will idle at 60c when set to HP mode in Power4gear (turbo off.)
Koi Hai, I have a P8800 (2.66GHz) I have not bothered to check frame rates with any tool but I have not been bothered with any slowdowns and have been mostly playing skyrim on the High setting. The only problems I have had lately I think are due to overheating and then CTD. This should be fixed now. I'm also planning to do the false vent port mod when I get a chance, just curious if the fan can be controlled by speedfan if I clip the blue wire?
Thanks all -
